Hello Everyone I am new to this site.

I have a 2007 5. 9 4 door dually 4x4 Laramie, the problem I am plagued with is the engine feels like it is missing. It vibrates the whole truck at idle and as engine speed comes up. I have had the injectors checked and flowed they are within bosch specs, I have checked the compression on all cylinders 485-500 psi.

I took it to a fuel injection pump place and they scanned the truck while running and said injectors look ok but a code of p0606 is in the computer. I do not have a programmer on the truck as far as I know I bought it repo at my bank. with 21,00 miles on it. The truck has 125,000 on it now.

It is a 6 speed manual trans.

I have seen some forums on the clutch in these trucks causing vibration but that does not explain the p0606 code.

I will fix whatever is needed but I just do not want to throw 100 dollar bills at it till I find it like everyone wants to

Any help Is greatly appreciated

Also It vibrates at highway speed enough to break the number 4 inj line twice

A common cause of rough idle that is cheaply replaced is the FCA (Fuel Control Actuator) which is priced at about $165 from a Cummins dealer or perhaps, from Geno's Garage. Easy to replace also.

Late 5. 9s with manual transmission use the fragile and failure prone dual mass flywheel assembly which can be a source of engine shake at idle also. How well does your clutch assembly work?

Another thing to consider is a vibration damper. Some members have reported failures.

A good dealer service department with a trained Cummins diesel tech can plug the shop computer into your truck and perform a cylinder contribution test. I think it kills each injector one by one to measure contribution to overall power by that cylinder. It can identify a failing injector.

Fill in your signature with the city, area, or at least the state where you live to help members offer advice.

I'm with sag2, but for a different reason, at 125K miles your on borrowed time with the DMF. If your worried about throwing dollars at questionable symptoms, then the DMF makes since. You will still need to replace it, so it will eliminate transmission mounts, DMF & clutch.

BTW, welcome to TDR. :)

If the vibration is in frequency with the crankshaft rotation, it could very well be a mechanical imbalance, as in a failing DMF. If it is at half that frequency, it could be a cylinder contribution problem.

P0606 ECU/PCM Processor

Until you can clear that code the source of the problem is hard to find. Sounds like a new ECU to start with. Bench tests on injectors won't catch all the potential problems and they won't catch operational erros that could result from the P0606.
