The P. O. S. clutch in my truck is slipping with only the 40hp setting on my Smartyjr. Truck only has 20,000 miles on it. I have read several opinions on which clutch to use but the time is due NOW to buy.
Here is what I need from the clutch:
1) My plans are to ONLY run a Smarty jr. but want to be able to try the 100hp setting.
2) I have had back surgery so I can't have a stiff pedal more than stock.
3) I do tow a 7,000lb trailer some.
I am leaning toward the Southbend 3250DD clutch. Have they addressed the neutral rattle?
THANKS for ALL input.

I had the old style 3250 (rattles all the time) and the pressure was more then stock, but I was not running the upgraded hydraulics. The clutch will old the power. I smoked mine in the sand dunes with Smarty and TST. I now have the SBC 3600 DD with upgraded hydraulics. She is very stiff, but I am used to it. The rattle is only while the clutch is engaged on the new models.

I can't believe that this forum doesn't have an opinion on what is the best clutch to run for my application... . I RESPECT all of you guys and your opinions. This site helped me buy my 2 Dodges.

I just got my 3250 DD with hydro upgrade installed on Tuesday. So far (only put about 75 miles on it) the pedal pressure feels the same as stock. It is a little noisy while in neutral or while in gear and coasting or off the throttle but not so noisy that it's annoying... . it's simply louder than stock. Besides... it's almost inaudible over the turbo whine anyways (which sounds awesome). For your use I'd say go with the 3250 DD and hydro upgrade and call it done.

Clutch

My stocker on the '07 is holding so far with the camper load,Smarty SR. sw#1 and 285-75-17's. Fortunately,I've got the lower final drive so that's helping. I'll be in the market sooner than I'd like. I'd would think SBC would update the news on their "quieter DD" that they're working on soon.

Con OFE

Con OFE should be all you need with your mods. DD would hold more should you plan to do more mods over 500HP. Noise on DD will always be there as there is probably close 100lbs of clutch spinning inside. I'm @ a little over 19K miles with the stock clutch DMF and will only slip if i get on it going up the interstate ramp with the Smarty on #6 with a 37" tires. My Christmas gift this year will be a SB DD. :)
