I have this clunk noise every time I let out the clutch, I just back from a 1000 mile trip and now when you let off the fuel or down shift, this noise sounds like a bearing is going out, Now, It does'nt do this all the time? I drove into town this morning about 11 miles in, And guess what? no noises. What is going on here? This is a 6 speed manual, 54000 miles, could this be the spider gear?

Could but doubt it. What you are hearing/feeling is pretty normal for the DMF. It has a set of springs and clutch like disk in it to absorb the TQ so it rotates. After a while the springs and everyhting just wears and it gets worse. Friend of mines has done it since day one, too hard on or off the go pedal or aggressive clutching and you get a clunk in the drive train.

cerberusiam,

I think your comment is in a decent direction, the secondary F/W is most likely loading as power is applied and then allowed to unload during coast. You might be able to irritate it by changing from drive to coast rapidly then do it gently and if the noise is modified, you are headed in the right direction. One additional wear item that allows to DMF to make or contribute to the noise is the thin bushing that separates the primary F/W from the secondary F/W. If this bushing is wearing out then you would also feel a vibration from the secondary F/W.

drive line clunk;

We have a blizzard going on right now, So I pulled the truck into the garage, And started looking around. What I found is one very worn U-joint, I have a new one comming in the morning, What would make a u-joint go out with only 54000 Miles on the truck? I haul a 24 foot toy hauler, I don't abuse the truck, I try to take care of it, What am I doing wrong?

Well, glad that was easier than DMF. We just assume all the obvious things were checked and sometimes its the simplest thats the answer. ;)

U-joints are hot or miss on these trucks. Non-greasable and the installtion procedure sometimes does not grease it enough. Then you are towing a toy hauler also.

Replace them with greasable types and add it to b-yearly maintenance list.

Where are you and the blizzard located?

Re; Noise;

Sorry about that, I live in South Eastern Montana, I came up here after I got out of the Army, I have been looking for a truck that would hold up to the harsh Montana roads... I have been buying Dodge Trucks for about 10 years. This is my first new Truck, So you know I want to take care of it... So needless to say you guys have helped me to get on the right page.

KCurlee, Do you have the 1 Piece or 2 Piece Drive shaft? If you have the 2 Piece you may want to check this thread out https://www.turbodieselregister.com...-discussions/205823-one-piece-driveshaft.html IF YOU CHANGE TO THE 1 PIECE REMOVE THE ENTIRE BRACKET ON THE CARRIER BEARING, Not just the bearing.

Noise;

We got the whole thing squared away this afternoon. . The rear u-joint was going out, I used the old jeep testing drive lines procedure, And it wasn't the rear end after all, I got my clunk and found my bad u-joint, The u-joint was replaced now Grand-pa smiles... Thank you guys for all your help on this matter...

FYI, the spiders do not turn until the truck is in a turn and one wheel is moving faster than the other. As you are going straight they are along for the ride.
