Hey everyone,

I am currently in the process of purchasing a 2007 2500 CTD with 67,000 miles on it. It has had regular maintenance and one owner. After starting the paperwork, I have continued doing research about the changes with the 6. 7's. Well the new additions such as the DPF, I am starting to become persuaded away from the truck. It seems the regen processes can be very inconvenient at times and somewhat confusing (And expensive). Unfortunately, I live in an area where eliminating these are not an option. For driving, it varies a lot from a 10 minute 55 mph drive to work to 35 mph with lights for 50 miles round trip to a 240 round trip at 70 mph, but not often on that one. I am just looking for opinions on this before I finalize the purchase Sunday. Its a beautiful truck and I do love it. Thanks for your help!

The drive cycle you mentioned should be okay and even better if you occasionally take longer highway trips on weekends and pull a trailer. The regen cycle will be invisible to you. You won't know if or when it occurs.

When you inquire about them you'll always find the members who own a 6. 7 like or love them, 5. 9 owners who have not owned and maybe not even driven one often don't like them. Who will you believe?

Make sure the truck has never had a magic black box, K&N (non)filter, or other adds done to it and also make sure it has had the ECM reflashes done.

Another thought - all 6. 7s require an EGR clean service and crankcase filter replacement at 67,500 miles. Insist on the dealer performing or proving the service has already been done. They'll charge you $300 - $400 to do it.

I have an early 08 2500HD Mega Cab bought in Nov 07 the early 08's and the 07. 5 have had some teething problems. These were eliminate with the several ECM flash by Dodge between 09 and 2010 on these vehicles under warranty. The Turbo Diesel Register “Turbo Diesel s Buyer's Guide” lists what you need to know and how to understand the 6. 7L engine better; see pages 38-44 and 108-113.
