Hello,

I've owned a few 5. 9s in the past (97, 01, 03, 04) and have never had one problem with any of them. I just sold my '06 F-350 6. 0, which was a great truck that never let me down, and have started looking for a Cummins. There are a few '04/'05 5. 9s I'm looking at, but there are some '07s I'm looking at as well. With regards to the 6. 7s, are there any issues/problems I should be looking for when looking over the trucks? What were the biggest problems with this engine when it was first released? Also, is the 6. 7's MPG really that bad?

Thanks

Ryan

I traded my '04. 5 2500 5. 9 auto for a '07. 5 3500 6 spd. I have 13000mi on it now. Have a non clutch? vibration in it when I push the clutch in which is annoying but dealer says nothing is wrong and when I drove another '07. 5 6spd (new one) it had the same vibration. It has been in twice for recalls but has never given me any problems at all. I haul a 3500lb camper on it and have a couple thousand miles pulling a 5000+lb utility trailer. The power it has is great-way better than my chipped '04. 5- and I love the exhaust brake. Mileage is about the same as the '04. 5 auto, 12-13mpg at 60mph with the camper on and 19-20mpg at 70mph empty. My take on other guys experiences is a few are lemons but most have few problems BUT at some mileage must have the turbo cleaned and I don't know what it will cost after warranty is over. Apparently, they like to be used hard and have some emmissions equipment issues when used stop and go. Mines been great and I love it. Cummins!

Lots of power. 6 speed auto is sweet and exhaust brake is nice. I get 15-17 unloaded. I've had the turbo replaced. I also notice that the engine is "making oil". This is due to fuel dilution of the oil. Dodge says it's normal. I say it's a problem that won't manifest until long after the warranty.

I see pretty much same mileage as sabre. Maybe I've been lucky, but I haven't thrown a code or anything. They did the O2 sensor thing and reflashed the ECM at the same time. That's it. Otherwise an oil change every five thousand miles, and diff fluid change and fuel filter change at 12K.

I have no complaints. The six speed auto is awesome.

Making oil? Do you mean that fuel is leaking into the oil pan, increasing the fluid volume within the pan?
