Like usual I sell the best truck I ever had (one in sig) and now don't read anything good about the new 6 spd mileage--I was ready to fly up to Dave Smith this week and pick up a single wheel long bed 4X4 with a manual gearbox but don't like the sounds of a few of the posts I have been reading!! What is the real truth here--I sure don't like hearing about 10-12 MPG empty I can get that with any of the other trucks I have had including a dually tow boss with 430 gears and the 550 I drive for work with 488's and 15000 pounds--has Dodge screwed up that bad??

Russ,

My '06 is almost a year old, has 6300 miles on it, and gets 19 to 20 in mixed driving. Sure, that's the overhead, but it's always calculated to be only about 1/2 mpg high.

Pulling my 10,000 pound Arctic Fox (most of my driving) it gets 10 to 11 mpg driving 65 to 70 mph.

Just the facts, man.

Russ..... my 07 drw 3500 with 1931 miles on it got 20. 8 at mostly 70 mph on a trip to Gatlinburg TN last weekend... ... ON that trip I did not take my 14,100lb. Sunnybrook fifth wheel..... can't wait to hook it up and roll... ... I like to get 3 to 5000 miles before I tow... anything... ... trucksalesdave..... central Georgia

David is your truck a G56 or auto--this is the kinda figures we used to see but had trouble getting that out of an 05--maybe there is some truth to the rumor that Dodge found something out about the engines between 05 to 07

06 with G56 and yeah it does feel like it needs a 7th gear but i'm getting 19. 5-20. 5 (hand calc) mixed driving... better than my 04. 5 around 15-16

San Diego 2500 srw G-56

Russ,I just received my Dave Smith Motors G-56 via auto transport. Worst weather in a decade and a 1430 mile drive south, thus rendering a lousy break-in kept me from flying up there. My first fillup showed 19. 1 mpg. going from Clairemont to Carlsbad, all freeway. DSM upgraded my tires to 285-70-17's so overhead and odometer are slightly off. Now with a whopping 175 miles on it,my overhead shows 17. 8,combined driving. They do feel like a 7th gear is needed, but my popup camper's going on pretty soon,so it's going to be about right. All stop and go undoubtedly will render lower mileage figures. I love this truck so far. If you go for it have Johnny B. in accessories install any extras,i. e. exhaust brake, wheel well liners, mud flaps, sprayliner etc. They are very reasonable and did a great job. I wish DS would open a store down here.

Russ... . it is a g56 and love it..... it will see mostly CARPORT duty as it was bought to replace HDT 2001 Volvo single axle camper puller..... Wife and I getting to old to climb up and down or at least that is what she says... ... IF I drove my 3500 every day I am not sure it would be my favorite cause it will work you in town... . the g56 that is..... My volvo trans is a super 10 trans. is actually a lot easier to drive than the g56... could be 435hp N14 cummins... ... ... ... ... . 20 plus??????MILES PER GALLON... . could be at 51..... I drive like a old MAN

Just sold my 05' SRW 3500 CTD Auto also... And bought a 07 DRW G56 and love it except for the poor milage at first :( . Now after 500 miles on the Odometer and some highway driving I went from 10 or 11 :{ ... to 14 and 15 and I am looking forward to even better mileage after some more numbers are logged on my Odometer. I miss my auto in the city but sure am happy with her on the highway other than needing a seventh gear, Empty.

I will be putting my 22. 5" Alcoas with 255/70/22. 5's on it soon and that will bring my final ratio down about 400 RPMS on the highway.

BTW that is with driving it like I stole it!!!

I have 900 Miles on my '07. My first tank hand calc was 16. 3 mpg 60/40 City/Hwy mix. Overhead was way off showed 18. 1 mpg. Weather was colder then normal and I used 4 wheel drive 1 day due to snow. It took 30 gals when the low fuel alarm came on which was very different from my '02.

2007 Mileage

I have about 3500 miles on my 2007 with the G56. It's a 4WD regular cab. My mileage has varied from 16. 5 mpg on the very first tank (was it all the way full from the dealer?) to 18. 5 mpg. That is daily commute driving (31 miles one way) and I never drive above 65 mph. The 3500 mile average is a little over 18 mpg. And I have the basic truck, so there is no overhead console.
