I cut this from another site,is this guy blowing smoke or is it true?

The 24 V Cummins is guaranteed by contract to 2007. Common rail injection coming 2003 that will cut noise to that of a gasser unless over about 2200 RPM? The Mecedes diesel is going into the over 1 ton models that Dodge is going to compete with the Ford F550 etc.

I heard pretty much the same info. from a dealer in the area who attended a Dodge seminar or something, but I didn't think the contract went out that far.

My salesman told me about the contract almost 2 years ago - he had just come from a Dodge truck sales conference and all the rumors about the Cummins going away had just started.

I had contacted Cummins about 4 weeks ago. The representative that I spoke to said that Cummins has a contract with DC to provide their engine until 2004.

Also, the updated 24V for 2003 will have some new features to make the engine quieter and possibly have more HP. Supposedly, these added upgrades are to keep in line with the competition, probably the Duramax.

Well:
Add this to your rumors. I had a service person at Freightliner this morning that Dodge was trying to get away from Cummins because they had a 6 cyl. Detroit that was going in. I said are you sure 'bout that. He said yep, thats it. I say ok,we'll see.

More rumors for you all,

The local Dodge truck guy told me when he was at the factory several years ago, they were working a CAT diesel to replace Cummins, when the contract ended. This year when he went to the factory, they were all talking about a Mercedes diesel.

When I went and looked at a Duramax ( just checking it out ), the sales BS'r said GM tried to get CAT but they could not meet production requirements. So they got Isuzu to design it, and GM builds it themselves.

Why are we always ready for the bigger engines before DC?????????? Which manual trans. would work behind the 300? I think our 6 spd. box is rated at 550# of torque. I like my 6 spd.

If Chrysler was smart they stick with the Cummins. But since 98 they been pretty dumb.
Yeah it will be a Detoit only if DC can buy them out( so they can build the MBE900 in USA and put Detoit's name on it).

well the Cummins has been in the dodge application since 1989, its now 2006 well take about a day or so and it will be. I honestly think if dodge wants to keep moving their heavy duty trucks they will stick with the Cummins, of course they could be getting pressure from up the line from Daimler and this might be the reason for such talk. . of course those posts were from 2001.

If they ever put the MB engine in the dodges it will be a catastrophe in my opinion, of course im not familiar with the MB engine and its size, weight, torque so i can't really say if it will be a major fowl up or not. I know the new UPS truck that comes here when stuff is delivered by them has the 5 cylinder MB engine, alot of the old UPS and FedEx trucks have the Cummins as their is no mistake in the sound of the ISB Cummins... Guess time will tell as to what takes place, i just hope it doesn't happen myself, its bad enough you can't get a completely American made car/truck.

from what i know right now, working for cummins, is that they are contracted to 07, shich is also when the emissions requirements change. not sure about anything after that though. but with the cummins powered trucks sold, I dont think that they would switch up now while the other domestic companies are going down the toilet

Doesn't Ford own Cummins? I know that DC owns/partners with MB. I do not know what the future holds, but it would make since for the Fords to have a Cummins and the Dodge to have a MB. JMO
