I was just reading the cummins website describing the details of the 2007 6. 7 liter ISB engine, and it states that the engine comes standard with a compression brake. Anyone know if this will be in the HD cab&chassis model and hopefully maybe even in the 07 MY 2500/3500 series? I'd love to have a real compression release brake on a lt duty truck.

The variable pitch on the turbo (someone correct me if I've said this wrong) would allow for the turbo to act as an exhaust brake..... if they decide to add this function to the ECM... ... I haven't seen any information that would include an engine brake in this engine as used on the dodge pu... . and engine brake requires a spacer installed on the cylinder head to turn on and off the function of the exhaust valve... I don't believe there will be the clearance needed from the top of the engine to the base of the hood and firewall to make this work... . but only time will tell... .

And Yes Dan... I want at least one 5500 and maybe 2 of them... I'm waiting like you are to order... . Only time will tell... .

You're pretty much right. The turbo will be able to close up enough to act as an exhaust break. Actually they are saying almost 35% more pulldown as compared to their brake right now.

An ENGINE brake would be the balls! Just make the engine compartment a little taller as well as the dash! It would be worth it coming down to the stop light with a CTD 5500 with a 20K goose neck trailer ... . BLAAAAA, BLAAAAA, (then hit the 3rd stage) BLAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA. :D :D

From my article on the chassis cab intro ( https://www.turbodieselregister.com/06ntea/ ):

With the variable geometry turbo it can now be used as an exhaust brake. You can order as a factory option the controls to make the turbo function as an exhaust brake. All of the mechanicals are there in the turbo, but it needs the controls to function. It is quoted as being able to provide 35% more braking than the existing butterfly valve exhaust brakes. The switch for the exhaust brake will be integrated into the center stack of the instrument panel in the same area as the seat heater controls.
