Hey Guys.

A friend of mine has a 2007.5 3500. Called me up today asking if I can ask around about a problem he is having. He told me he does not have any power at the head light plug on that side. He was told @ the dealer that it's a known problem and that he must replace the TIPM ( $1000.00) to correct the issue. My friend is pretty mechanically inclined and for right now just ran a jumper wire from the driver side plug to power the pass side headlight, but he is wary of doing this for a long time feeling that he might over tax the rest of the lighting circut.

Has anyone out there had this issue and if you would mind sharing how you resolved the issue. THANKS!

Its the tipm. They are expensive but dorman has them for cheaper. Also the dealer may be able to flash it with uograded software so that it doesnt freak out as much.

^^^^ This is all correct…likely the TIPM (totally integrated power module) needs to be reset. The TIPM can often be reflashed by the dealer to both reset the software controlled "circuit breakers" as well as upgrade the software to a slightly higher load rating. That being said, it takes a reputable and knowledgeable service dept to do so correctly as often they simply want to charge you for a replacement TIPM at the tune of $800 to $1200 installed. If for some reason your tipm has already been ref lashed 3 or 4 times, then you may well need to purchase a replacement, in which case the Dorman aftermarket rebuild is a much cheaper, plug n' play (as long as you order the correct one for your trucks options) solution. I have seen some Dorman units available for as little as $250 at CarID.

NOTE-- PDC (power distribution center) are on 2005 and earlier trucks, BEFORE the CanBus wiring system is just a regular old fuse box…I am VERY thankful that my truck has one!!!

NOTE 2-- PCM is the same as ECM…stands for Powertrain / Engine Control Module

Thanks Seafish I knew I would get those acronyms screwed up. I thought canbus was supposed to be so great?

CanBus wiring control certainly has its advantages from an engineering/design point of view, but at least the early TIPM were uber sensitive to current/voltage spikes and overloads. And once overloaded, instead of the owner simply popping a new fuse, it needed a dealer reflash or even replacement to get it working again….NOT that great from an owners perspective.
