well I must say a 6. 7 Cummins sounds very nice, but lets take a look at the price hike just in the 06's... I dont even want to imagine an 07 with a larger engine and more gadgets. Sure you'll sit back and say wow my truck only has (had) 610, 600, or 555 ft lbs. But with the higher output comes lower fuel mileage not to mention the higher monthly payments. Ill keep my 5. 9 and the lower monthly cost, and IMO the better body style.

But for those who need a 4500, 5500 the extra output will be a very nice thing to have.

The key to getting better mileage will be getting more mph with less rpm. My best mileage on my 05 is at 1500rpm in OD, which is only about 52mph. Most nights, that will get me killed on the interstate

I could get a major increase in mpg if one of these two things happen:, assuming all else stays relatively the same:

- Dodge offered a 3. 42 axle

- the new 68RFE has a second overdrive at 0. 50-0. 55:1

A 3. 42 axle would get that 52mph to 57 at the same tach... but even better, a 0. 55:1 OD ratio with 3. 73s would get me all the way to 65mph at the same 1500rpm - that would boost my 21mpg to an honest 25!

The 68RFE gear ratios will be the key as to how long I keep my 05, not necessarily the extra power of a 6. 7L ISB.

I have a 3. 54 and run 1400 rpm / 51 mph going to / from work on secondary roads. Overhead (we know it is not accurate) shows 29 - 33 mpg. I use it to get the max mpg point.

My next truck's gonna be a GM(C) 5500. Screw those of you who wanted DC to stay with a 3500 cab style. I want to sit up higher and drive a truck.

There, that oughtta get a reaction.

No serious flames intended. ;) :D

But for those who need a 4500, 5500

That'd be me. Got plenty of umph now, just need bigger axles, brakes, springs/airbags... Don't even think of suggesting I get a F550.

I thought that the larger motor for 07 was to compensate for the new 07 emmisions, meaning, larger restricted motor with the same HP and TQ as 06??
