In regards to the factory 7 pin trailer plug what is supplied to the plug by the TIPM? Left turn/brake, Right turn/brake, tail/marker lights and backup lights?
Does the trailer brake controller and 12v supply go through the TIPM or the fuses in the panel on top of the circuit board?
I'm getting everything together to build a saver for the trailer plug and would like to know about the brakes and 12v supply before sizing the fuse/relay panel.
Also would it be use to isolate the headlights from the TIPM, can it be done without any code call outs?

Thanks

I avoid upsetting the TIPM at all costs. Lost my fog-lights when I got caught in some high water; no electrical to the lights. At the same time I was thinking of adding some driving-lights. I put both systems on separate harnesses and relays, going straight to the batteries and hence bypassing the TIPM. Works great! Now, if I could just get my hands on that engineer who came up with the screwball idea of running that stuff through the TIPM.

I built some TIPM savers a few years ago. I had 4 separate circuits that I isolated the tipm from at the trailer plug. The 4 were the ones you described. The 12 volt battery and the trailer brake do go through the tipm but are fused and not controlled by the tipm. I ran a 40 amp fused, 10 gauge wire from the input post of the tipm back to the box where I had the relays and 4 thermal reset, 15 amp circuit breakers. I used 4 cube relays with a resistor buffer across the relay coil to avoid voltage spikes back into the tipm when the relay coil current is collapsed. One thing you will notice is that you will have brighter trailer lights.

TIPM saver

Yes....maybe 5-6 yrs ago. I still have it in the box and haven't installed it yet because I don't tow. But I have it if I need it! Kinda dumb I know!
