2008-2011 Recall for Left Tie Rod End

Has anyone seen the NHTSA Recall Notice yet on the 2008 to 2011 recall on the left front tie rod end?



The comment in the "Remedy" sections says:

"DEALERS WILL INSPECT THE TIE ROD ENDS FOR RELATIVE ORIENTATION"



What is there in the orientation of the tie rod end that leads to the failure?



Has anyone seen the Dodge TSB on this?

Have not seen the procedure yet, but it sounds similar to the Cab Chassis recall that requires the Inclinometer to set the joint at the proper angle so it does not get overly stressed.

But what kind of an adjustment is made to change the angle? I don't see how that can be done looking at my truck.

I have the 2009 upgrade parts on my 2005, from what I understand, the relation of both tie rod ends must match within 3 degrees, I haven't checked mine yet, but did look under it, the right one that is fixed in the angle is tilting forward just a tad, the left one that is adjustable is tilted more, so I will take care of that today, it looks like a simple fix.

It has always been the correct way to match the

Installed angles of the tre's

Interesting note,I have an app on my phone inclineter/angle finder

It comes in handy for so many things

Everyday including leveling the rv

2011 Mega Cab 3500 Dually

The recall talks about the shearing of the left tie rod ball stud at slow speeds. I don't think this has anything to do with the "Death Wobble".

So the recall is to check the relationship between the left and right tie rod ends. What don't the just say that. Oh wait the lawyer's probable got their nose into it and had to make it read in legal speek.

I don't know if this is what there talking about, but the relationship of both tie rod ends on mine was 3 degrees up on the right, and 10 degrees up on the left, I set the left to the same 3 degrees, had someone with engine running do full turns left and right with me watching the travel of the steering , no binding, everything looks real good and smooth moving, so I guess I am done.

Had mine into the dealer yesterday to add Chicken lights over the cab. They also did EGR and vent door motor recalls. I asked about this tie rod recall and was told it didn't apply to my truck.

The recall has not been launchd yet,no documentation has been received at the dealer level yet

I was in the dealer last week to pick up something, and the service department did not know $#!T.

Just had the left tie rod break. Truck is at the dealer. I'm not sure yet if the dealer has anything on the recall, service writer did not see anything in the system. I will have to check with them in the morning.

the 03 is different ,if you have the new style steering linkage added the h46 recall will apply

It is not a dealer issue but Corporate... ... ... ... the media always gets ahold of recall info early

I do have the new steering linkage. Thanks, I hope the dealer has the same info as you.

I took my truck to a dealer for the tie-rod recall, and it was found to be OK, so there was nothing replaced.
