Ford building it's own diesel to replace Navistar

Are we ready for 155 mpg yet ?

SWEET!!!! At least it is an inline 6! Maybe the engine will at least offer some TRUE competition for the Cummins and Cat 6's.

What's up with the narrow tailgate? It is inset from the sides of the bed?

Another positive: It has a MANUAL transmission. That is something that is unfortunately becoming hard to find without ordering a truck from the factory. It is very rare to ever see a manual transmission powerstroke or duramax.

Will be interesting to see what Nissan offers. They own the "UD" line of medium trucks, which have their own inline 6 engines. I know there is at least one in the 6ish liter displacement range...

When it does arrive, it will not have the 8. 0, more then likely something in the 5. 7-6. 0 range IIRC. Been covered quite a bit here 5-6 months ago, do a search.

Interesting with a 6. 0L Diesel. They had better beef up that frame cause the one they offer now is very thin walled and layers may be strong but not able to stand up to moisture trapped between the layers, ie; Rust out! Concept is great, Reality? GregH

Jest a rice burner. More money for the japs to take out of the U S A

The people of Japan are called Japanese, not what you called them. Let's show a little respect. I was stationed in Japan while in the military and I have much respect for the Japanese people and their customs.

Yep, and unlike many of the "foreign" countries, they are our allies. Would much rather send my money to Japan than China!

I hate to point this out and let facts get in the way of your opinion but... ... Honda's and Toyota's are actually made here in the USA. Unlike your Mexican dodge with it's Brazilian cast engine. ;)

Good point and like Dieselnut59 said, better Japan than China. I'll add, better Mexico then China.

Good point there too, Grizzly. I bought DeWalt 18 volt power tools because they were made in Mexico (none are made in USA by anyone). Every other company's tools are made in China. I would rather support our neighbor (although they are not always "neighborly") than a country who hates us. Plus, the more Mexicans we can employ in Mexico, the less come here "looking for work" (more like "to get a free ride off the US taxpayer"). Japan makes great quality products. So does Korea (South), India, Germany, Canada and Mexico. I like to buy made in USA when possible, but when not possible, I try my best NOT to buy Chinese, which is the number ONE reason I refuse to shop at Walmart, where, last I heard, 78% of the goods sold there are from China.

I agree with you 100% about junk made in China, especially tires and toys for the kiddo. You may be too young to remember when Sam Walton, the founder of Wal-Mart, was alive. He said he would never sell anything that wasn't made in the USA. Well times have changed and his kids took over. But the reality is, what's US made any more? I can only think two things, beer and New Balance Athletic Shoes.

I remember that well. I am 35 years old. Their slogan was "We buy American when we can so you can too". Boy, is that long gone!

New Balance has a lot of Chinese shoes too, but at least they DO offer the made in USA ones too. I have a pair, as well as made in USA Red Wings, Justins and Miller Lite beer!

Many of these "brands" have a cheap line and a premium line. Don't expect that just because it is a "USA Company" that it is made here. Always look for the "Made in... " tag.

Anyway, I am all for a quality diesel truck, but prefer a mini one which will get honest good fuel economy. The Mahindra one from India seems promising...

Japan could offer some excellent ones if they would bring them here...

Regarding the Japanese...

I've always enjoyed the Japanese folks I've met here in the U. S. - mighty tasty! (just kidding) - but it's the Japanese government that prevents me from even considering one of their cars, trucks, or motorcycles.

There's this little matter of World War 2 - the Japanese government has NEVER properly apologised for starting it in 1931. And the U. S. is far down the list as to whom they should apologise to: they callously murdered millions of Chinese, hundreds of thousands of Filipinos, and then of course the thousands of Brits, Americans, Australians, etc etc, not to mention the death by firebombing of an uncounted number of their own people, simply because the rulers of wartime Japan refused to "lose face" by surrendering even though they knew the war was a lost cause.

Yes, I know, they make a lot of their products here in the States; but the profits go back to the home islands. So I'll consider a Japanese vehicle minutes after I hear that their government has said, clearly and unambiguously, that they're SORRY for bombing Pearl Harbor.

(I had an uncle stationed at Hickam Field in December of '41; he had leave on the night of 6 Dec. , got stupendously and fumingly drunk, slipped back into the barracks at dawn, and was so out of it that he slept through the entire attack. )
