Is the "Class IV" factory hitch on my 2008 2500 Mega strong enough for my 13,500 lb Ragen Toy Hauler?

I tried adjusting the weight distrubuting bars to get the front of the truck to drop. Went 2 links tighter on the bars and only got 1/4" of drop.

I had to raise the trucks rear tires off the ground AND use a helper bar to get the chains pulled up on the brackets.

Seems like the reciever might be too weak and not transfering the load?

I did not have this problem with my 1997 with a Reese class IV hitch rated at 14,000 lbs.

any thoughts?

Ratings for a class 4 hitch are usually 10K. . but with enough WD amounts, it would OK I think. . The one thing is the hitch weight. Weigh the truck rear axle unloaded, full of fuel and such, front axle too. . separately.

Then hook the trailer up as tight as you can in normal hook up, then weigh it again. . If you get the rear hitch weight to around 1000#, I think you will be OK. . Try to put some load in the rear to help balance out the trailer a bit... lower amount of water, etc.

If you are still uncomfortable, best to get a class 5 hitch. .

Also I found out the very best WD hitch out there is the Hensley Hitch. No chains to try to lift. . Has screw-Jacks and the best part, most of the hitch unit and bars stay on the trailer while you take off a draw-bar only when you unhook.
