Site maintenance issues - down time today (tuesday)

looking for gen 2 crew cab conversion

Just want to say that I just received my issue 62 today with the 2009 Calendar in it and was very pleased to see that my submission to the 2009 calendar made the February page! Thank You TDR! I have been with you since I bought my first CTD in 1996. Keep up the fantastic, if not Awesome work that you do for all of us turbod (register) members out here in the real world doing what we do best..... enjoy our trucks!

Congratulations!

You should really be proud. This years competition was FIERCE! Most of the photographs that we received would have made wonderful pictures on the calendar. You should be proud!

Thank you for all of the kind words.

I would also like to thank TDR staff for choosing my truck for the calendar (June 2009).

I do have a question though - I tried to order an additional copy but had no success via the TDR web site. I figured I could order my subscription renewal and a spare calendar at the same time but no luck - the calendar ordering function doesn't appear to work. Am I doing something wrong?

Again, thanks MUCH for including my truck, and congratulations to all who made it onto the calendar this year!

I'm looking forward to seeing ALL the great Cummins powered diesels in the 2009 calendar, wish my mag/calendar would get to NM soon.

I just want add my comment, That the last few issues of the TDR Magazine are a true up grade and you should be commended for the fit and finish that has been applied. And the indepth articles that have been appearing in the last bunch of issues have been very informative.

The new Calender is great.

Thanks for your efforts.

Is there a way to get a list of the members user names that won and made it in the calender? I'm really trying to track down the April truck, Eric Nafzinger, because I wanna know where he got those KILLER headlight accents... .

I have no clue if this is an appropriate spot for this post or not, but when I got my issue 62 all that was in the envelope was the magazine itself and the geno's garage catalog, I thought that normally the calendar, the little oval 2009 member sticker and something else (the TDR travel companion possibly?) came in the packet as well.

GREAT calender overall! Oo.

In the future, may I suggest that pictures which illustrate how our government throws away OUR hard earned money on OUTRAGEOUSLY expensive and UN-NEEDED equipment are not shown? :) The February picture is an outstanding example of our governments ability to take waste fraud and abuse to new levels.

My TDR calender should NOT raise my blood pressure and aggravate me. :D

I'm hoping your post was meant to be "tounge in cheek". If you think a tiny little trailer boat (that would likely be used for rescue purposes) is a huge fraud or example of waste, just wait until you see what happens over the next few years...

Yes my reply was as much tongue in cheek as it was about a legit. point. If you had ANY idea what that "tiny little trailer boat" cost you might be and probably are thinking the same. You could buy are REAL nice house for what that rig costs US... . the tax payers.

Well, not knowing anything about the boat other than it looks to be set up for Arctic rescue (just a guess), I'd rather make sure the guys we ask to perform those rescues have the best tools possible. Also, do really expect the staff that was choosing the pictures to make sure something submitted isn't overpriced to the tax payers??? If you want to reign in waste, there are a lot better targets than some comparatively tiny little boat project.

More information and not a waste of $

Here is the deal on the boat.

The truck is mine, see the signature line below. The boat belongs to the US Coast Guard but is not operated by them, it is operated by the US Coast Guard Auxiliary. This boat was the first of many now nationwide that the CG supplies and maintains and the Auxiliary operates. 256611 came to Alaska in June 2001 to fill a gap in the coverage in western Prince William Sound Alaska (remember the Exxon Valdez?) out of Whittier AK, see this website U. S. COAST GUARD AUXILIARY-WHITTIER ALASKA FLOTILLA for more info

Coast Guard Auxiliarists are VOLUNTEERS and DO NOT get paid for what they do. I have been in the Auxiliary since Aug 2000 and enjoy all that I do with the organization. There was no CG station in the Whittier area and new public road access to the area demanded it. However due too budgets the CG could not build a station there but a public and state committee recommended one so the GC and the local Auxiliary established an Auxiliary station (in a retired, donated railroad caboose) This boat was brought in and the station and the boat are manned entirely by Auxiliary volunteers. The CG trains us and we do the work for them. I find it very rewarding and sometimes very challenging.

This boat 256611 is being retired this year, but I have researched some facts and figures for you to ponder.

  • 4568. 9 Volunteer man hours have operated this boat since june 2001

1113 volunteer man hours were spent on search and rescue missions on this boat since 2001

63 people were "rescued" by this boat since 2001

3 people were saved and owe their lives to this boat and its crews since 2001

$1,051,000 of property value has been saved, assisted or towed by this boat since 2001

I personally have 640 operational hours and 175 hours on search and rescue missions on this boat since June 2001

I qualified my truck and have towed it on Alaska roads more than 3000 miles

So to sum it up the CG bought this one little boat, did not have to build a new station, man the station, man the boat or transport the boat by road. For the price of training and outfitting a few local Auxiliarists they have actually saved the taxpayers millions of dollars.

And you cannot put a price on the three lives that were saved by this boat.

EXCELLENT reply and VERY interesting story Turbod! I don't doubt the points you make. The mission of these boats is not an easy one to say the least and the hard working men and women who serve on these boats engage in very dangerous and difficult work. I never questioned that.

My point is that with RARE exception, and this is not one of them, whatever the government can do... ..... private industry can do better, cheaper, while employing private citizens.

The government MUST be stopped from providing that which private and individual American citizens can provide for themselves. The Alaskan fish and crabbing industry is proof of that.

Besides, the Dept. of Home Land Stupidity has adulterated the US Coast Guard to the point of almost not having much if anything of its core mission left.

Sharp looking truck and boat by the way.

I am very pleased with my 2009 callender, and I use it in my office daily, my only complaint is why so many 3rd GENS?!?!!? Lets see some more 1st and 2nd GENS!!!!! :-laf

(I might be a little partial to 2nd gens since owning my '95)

We Agree

We agree JoshKelly. The percentage of 1st Generation photos submitted is very low. We get more 2nd Generation photos, but by far, most of the photographs submitted were of 3rd Generation trucks - so the calendar has more 3rd Generation trucks. You 1st and 2nd Generation truck owners, fire up those cameras!
