Chris,

Some people just don't get it and want to blame the guy just trying to stay middle class which is a little easier with the decline of house prices. As you said Unions are on the decline as are wages in the private sector. I venture to say that it will be 5% Union labor in the near future and wages will continue to decline. Work longer hours for less money. Things like 40 hr work week, overtime pay, safe working conditions-these are the things my Grandfather fought for as a Long shoreman in the 30's. 1%ers would love us to go back to those days as seen by the teabagger movement.

Perfect example of the great trickle down theory not at work. GE makes 14+ billion while paying no tax plus gets a tax return of 3+ billion. All the while they ask for and get there union labor force to take pay cuts and pay more for benifits which they agree to. The final slap in the face is there CEO takes home a 140 million dollar salary including bonus. Yea its the little guy who is killin us.

Like you I am a independent as defending any party today is just short of crazy.

The number one problem in this country is the EPA, carb and others like them impose regulations and rules with NO Congressional oversite - - These organizations are far more responsibile for the economic condition of this country than any thing else - - including the banking fiasco. #@$%!

BULLYOo.

Mac:cool:

Anybody else observe that states or municipalities can set fines for traffic infractions? Where's the input from the taxpayers? They've definitely been rising much faster than the rate of inflation.

I can see the AFL CIO has you BS,ed. I have been in the USW for over 31 years, and I can tell you they don't give a dam about the working man. All they care about is taking money from special interest groups that help get their liberal law makers elected#@$%!.

It pisses me off to no end how I have no say in how my dues are used to contribute to these tree hugging calif senators that want to destroy our industry, and their doing it. #@$%!

This past election our commie union endorsed a no vote on prop 23 which would have put AB32 (Cap and Trade for calif)on hold. But instead waged a HUGE campaign to over throw it (Prop23) which at it's very core means valuable oil industry jobs our sent overseas#@$%!. WHY???. No one will answer my question.

Mind sets such as yours will turn our country into one like Poland. I believe in being rewarded for hard work no matter how long you have been with a company or the color of your skin, or what ever your political affiliation is.

Unions are destroying our economy, and our work ethic protecting deadbeats, losers and the like. Plus they go against all capitalistic fundamentals undermining Corporations ability to promote new ideas and reward hard work.

I am a third generation union worker enjoying the hard work my father and grandfather put in. Not the Friggin union:mad:

I can tell you voted for Harry Reid.

Mac:cool:

Labor union members are the largest voting block and biggest donors to the politicians who raise taxes on the top wage earners and corporations causing major manufacturers to move outside of our country. The high wages they demand also contributes to the same situation.

The part about largest voting block is what is killing Calif. Jerry Brown WILL NOT touch the public retirement because the union is what got the POS elected in the first place. But he may not have a choice. I paid into my retirement and so should public workers and just not given to them and a damn good one at that payed for by the public. How many times have you seen a public service worker sleeping in a truck under a shade tree for hours. Thats how I had to get my sidewalk repaired was to video tape 2 trucks with 3 workers sit for hours doing not one thing. I went to public works and asked about my sidewalk and they said to busy dont have the time. I gave them the CD and just take a look at what is going to be played at the next council meeting and low and behold they found some extra time to have no less than 7 guys fixing my sidewalk BEFORE the next meeting

Mr Barlow

Please correct me if I am wrong, BUT if MY numbers are right only 9% of the the USA work force is union at this point and when the Messiah as you say was elected it was 11% labor work force So By your statement only say 10 percent of the population voted???

Well as usual I will dispell your Anti Union soap box grandstanding Sir

Answers.com - What percent of eligible voters voted in the 2008 presidential election

and if you go to the Census Bureau they have a very nice link as to voting Demographics but i will high light some stastics for you

the below numbers are percentage of the population.

1996 election reg voters. 70. 9% those who really voted 58. 4%

2000 election reg voters. 69. 5% those who really voted 59. 4%

1996 election reg voters. 72. 1% those who really voted 63. 8%

AND the numbers for the Messiah election are

2008 the percent of voters who voted was 61. 7%

Things that make you go Hmmmmm union membership say 11% that is a 3rd of the actual voters so tell me Mr Barlow how the Unions are the evil doers who ruined this country again, Maybe some facts or links to substaniate your statements because If i was wrong i can admit it. kinda hard to really believe what you write with no facts, I challenge you Mr Barlow to point me to some hard evidence that the Unions have ruiend the USA.

and for the record I DID NOT Vote for OBAMA, I Voted INDEPENDENT.

So have a Great Sunday, again I am working a 14 Hour day in Portland OR on my Union Job still have not been home in 3 months and have only had 5 days off in 3 months. a far cry from the fat Lazy unskilled union labor that you suggest we all are.

again have a nice day

Chris
That can't be right, whos blowing what, up someones what. The entire Federal & State work force is Union just for starters, now include the local firefighters and cops and teachers. Now figure in the private work force, its over 9%.

Wow Mac tell me what you really feel-LOL

Never once did I say Unions were perfect in any way. My 30+ years as a PROUD IBEW member were not perfect but I believe there interests were with the working man or women. My point was that corperations only care about there own interests and they have shown it by not rewarding there employees in time of RECORD profits only the brass, and many moving there labor force over seas. If you want to compete with 3rd world labor then do your part and work fo 2 bucks a hr. I'm sure your company would love it-more for the top. If you and your fellow workers hate your union so much get all to opt out and see how fair your company bargins when it comes to years end.

Funny that you know my voting record and consider me a commie. As a independent I do not follow any party blindly as most do like sheep. My choices here in Nevada were Mr Reid or Miss Angle. Given that choice I did vote for Reid because I saw him as the lesser of two evils. Sorry that bothers you but it was my vote.

One last thought and I will get off my soap box-I worked hard and like 99% of the people I worked with I felt we earned every penny. Have a nice day pal:-laf

I guess I did get a little personal, and I am sorry for that.

But until you walk a mile in my boots and have seen the BS they (the union)

do I guess you wouldn't understand.

The fights they choose to take on are unbelievable. They are clearly for the benefit of socialistic values. I work hard and go the extra mile for a job well done. I wish I could say the same for allot of my co workers, who seek the

protection of the collective bargaining agreement.

I would love to disband the union and take my chances being only rewarded by how hard I apply my self and what I bring to the table. Not by just how long I have been in the union.

One example is Valero Corp. They are non union. When they hire someone for any position and can't cut the mustard their gone, simple as that. Where I work their allowed one chance after another until their probation is up. Then the hard workers carry them for the rest of the time their employed.

Examples like this cripple corporations ability to promote and compete with others who don't have to protect dead beats and losers.

Im sorry you feel senators like Reid are good for anything other than promoting socialism, and telling you what health insurance you have to have.

He was the lesser of the two evils:rolleyes:. He should be imprisoned for treason, along with Pelosi.

Mac:cool:

No problem Mac we all see things how we lived them. I too think the system is very broken and can only hope my grandchildren can make a new world for themselves because my generation and the one after that has really screwed it up. I just see big business as very greedy and people in general lack a sense of community and true humanity. It's a 15 minutes of fame and I 've got mine screw the rest of em mentality. I agree sometimes the lazy are wrongly protected but many times without representation a good hard worker is screwed because some higher up has it out for them.

As far as Reid goes I stiil say he was and is better then Angle. Most here in the State I live in felt the same as he won. Take care as I am done with this pissin match.

I have a brother in law in the boiler makers union and he was just telling me about how he just got back from a shift in the oilsands and he along with about 5 other guys spent the whole turnaround sitting in the office litterally doing nothing for 12 hours a day, playing cards etc. and these guys are at the top of the payscale. This is "THE GOOD LIFE" as they put it. And you wonder why we are looseing work to over seas and one reason ,besides the top end bonuses, why the price at the pumps keep going up. We've all, union or not have become too greedy of a society and all think that we deserve more than the next guy. At our shop, if you don't put out within the first few weeks, your gone! We don't keep dead beats around and don't have to. There are several guys who we have let go that have gone to the union because they can get the big pay even though they don't know their trade well enough to plug in the welder "before" turning it on. And we pay accordingly as per their work quality and some make more than the union guys I know. They get what they are worth, not the set journyman rate that all get.

We all like our "cheap" stuff that is garbage, not like our parents and grand parents who worked hard and saved there money, paid cash and bought North American products that they are still using today because they lasted, they cost 2-3 times as much, but at the end of the day, they spent the same money as buying three cheap versions of the same thing and filling up our landfills, polluting with the overseas shipping, etc and they wern't in debt from over spending. This cheap stuff just has us buying more JUNK that we don't really need, that our parents/grandparents did without. Visous cycle.
