2013 Ram 3500 Check ABS Cables

I made an appointment for Tuesday morning to have the Ram put on the computer to find out if there is a reflash that will cure the ITBM of it's ills. If there isn't one, I'm having it removed so I can install an aftermartket controller. The dealer has to remove/erase sales code XHC from the TIPM and then reconfigure/reflash it to clean out the presence of the ITBM. I can then use the factory wiring without getting an error code.

I'll post what happens on Tuesday.

Don't waste your money on the ref lash. It is easy to make the "check trailer brake system" go away on the EVIC. Just run a hot and a neutral from the battery to the factory controller at the appropriate locations or tap the new cable that MaxBrake provides with the controller you should buy.

I just did this on my 2011 and the braking is seamless! Really no difference than driving without the trailer.

I assume that you disconnected the brake controller from the factory plug under the dash. Which pins on the controller are the 12V+ and the 12V-? Did you just tuck the OEM brake controller up under the dash? Were you then able to plug the MAXBRAKE cable into the recep under the dash?

Thanks for the help

Just unplug the factory controller and plug it into the pigtail provided by MaxBrake. Plug the cable from the pressure sensor to the MaxBrake.

1. Have the dealer delete the factory controller.

2. run a hot and neutral from the battery with a fuse to the hot and neutral prongs on the factory controller.

3. Tap the MaxBrake pigtail on the hot and neutral wires and plug into the factory controller.

Any of the above will work or just hit one of the buttons on your steering wheel and the "service brake system" will clear every time you start it.

Leave factory controller in place.

I worked with my dealer on this and finally talked to the Service Manager. He suggested pulling the 2010 IBC and substituting a 2012 controller. I agreed. The difference is amazing. I can lock the trailer brakes with the slide switch and get very good brake control at setting 7. 0. I'm satisfied. BTW, this was done under the warantee.

At the TDR Rally in May In Pahrump the dealer took out my Dad's controller and installed it in my truck and the options for Heavy/light did not show up on the EVIC so I installed a MaxBrake.

Are you now able to select heavy/light or electric/hydraulic settings on the EVIC now?

Short answer, no on the funtionality. There must have been something wrong with the old controller itself, because this one works as advertised for a 2010.

I have a question: I have a 2012 2500 with the integrated brake controller and when I have a trailer hooked and plugged in I cannot select, light vs. heavy electric or hydraulic trailer via the steering wheel functions or on the controller itself, it is apparently just set on light electric and that is it. The trailer is technically light (7000 GTW) and has electric brakes, but I figure that I might would get a quicker brake engage if I could get it set it on heavy electric.

I had a drawtite controller on my 2011 Ram 1500 and you could adjust both the amount of brake 0-10 and the speed/intensity with which the brake engage 0-100%. Unfortunately, on the 2012 controller factory controller all I have been able to adjust is the amount of brake 0-10 and I am running a lot more brake than I did with the drawtite controller b/c I cannot figure out how to adjust the speed/intensity of the brake engagement.

Help, thoughts?? Thank you.

Go see the Dealer, you should have options in the EVIC.

You can set the trailer brake intensity in EVIC owner selectable items:

Press and release the UP or DOWN arrow

button until the Trailer Tow icon is highlighted.

Press the SELECT/RIGHT arrow button and

the next screen will display the following

trailer trip information:

• Trailer Trip

• Trailer Brake
