while exiting the fwy with a 12,000lb fith wheel i had to apply the brakes quite hard due to the factory controller pretty much sucks as i came to a stop the power steering was locked up truck was still running so i put the truck in park look under the hood thinking a line has blown no problems there i shut the truck off start it back up and it still locked up only after pressing on the brakes did it release it seems to me this was caused by extreme brake pressure does any one know if the steering and brakes run off of a common connection of some sort any insight on this would be great thanks charlie

Hydroboost always biases to brakes over steering. In your case all the hydraulic pressure went to the brake system and bypassed the steering system. In reality the steering didn't "lock up" it is just extremely hard to steer unless you are moving at a fairly good speed.

thanks for the info it sounds like there is nothing ican do to prevent this and i was going very slow when i couldnt turn i would not wnat this to happen at speed in a emergency braking sitiuation thanks again

Assuming the system is clean with no problems, it is normal. But at speed it is actually a little easier to steer than when your going slow. It is more the surprise from the easy to hard steering feel that makes it hard to steer than anything else.

the dealer ended up replacing the power sterring pump and box and the booster he said he did find small amount of metal in the resivoir screen i will have to wait and see thanks for the info

That was a good call on his part if they found any debris in the system. Many times the offending part gets replaced and the system does not get cleaned of the small debris from the failed part, and the process starts all over again. Did you happen to check the fluid level/condition before you took it in?
