I am ordering a new 2011 3500 and would like info on what the Customer Preferred Package 2FH included. Also is the integral trailer brake compatible with hydraulic disc trailer brakes?

Debating on whether to put my present truck up for private sale of trade.

Has 62,000 miles.

Thanks

I can tell you without a doubt, the trailer brake does not work with hyd. brakes. Get a "Maxbrake", you won't regret it.

Hydraulic disc trailer will have a surge coupler on the trailer and the integral trailer brake controller will have nothing to do with the trailer brakes. If you had electric brakes on the trailer then it would be a different story.

If he was talking about the brakes on his fifth wheel, which i presumed he was, then it doesn't have a surge coupler. And if he was talking about the fifth wheel, it will not work with the factory controller.

I presently use a Kelsey Hayes controller specially designed for hydraulic disc brakes which works very well. I will try the integrated unit and if it does not work properly use the one I now have. I sure like the hydraulic system as the system provides eves smooth braking.

Thanks guys,

Norm:)

Sorry, that's not accurate. No RV trailer uses surge brakes. I have never seen, read, or heard of a travel trailer, fifth wheel or conventional, that uses surge brakes.

The last RV I had with surge brakes was a 1978 Jayco Cardinal tandem-axle pop-up that weighed about 3500 lbs.

If you delete the integrated trailer brake controller and go aftermarket, you'll need to get the dealer to do a flash to eliminate it from the CANbus system; otherwise, you'll get a continuous error message on the EVIC screen.

In the early '80s, one of my customers owned a HiLo tandem axle telescoping travel trailer with surge brakes. I don't remember what year it was, but he bought it new. He towed it with a 1/2-ton Chevy Suburban and didn't use or need an equalizer type hitch.
