2011 Ram 3500 Oxygen sensors, module and wire overlay??

So my check engine popped on Wednesday and was on until they worked on it today. Today was the appointment and they came back saying the codes were saying I needed:
2 Oxygen Sensors
the Oxygen Sensor Module
and the ''updated'' Oxygen Sensor wiring overlay
Total about $ 705 not covered by the warranty or extened warranty.
Miles on truck 77,500 ish.
Runs great.
Actually sent me home, the work will be done on Tuesday and I'm free to use the truck all weekend (traveling to WA)

Anyone have this issue with O2 Sensors?
The service advisor stated it is common....
This was a new one for me.

Frustrating that this is at only 77k miles. They stated my upper ball joints are getting loose too.

Sounds like they are covering all bases.I would just have them do the wiring and clean or replace the sensors

Why isn't the warranty covering this? There was also a service bulletin regarding O2 sensor dtc's and how to deal with them........I think Bob turned me on to it.

That should be covered under the drivetrain emission warranty, 5 years/100,000 miles. Has it been modified??

That repair should be covered under the Federal emissions warranty. 8 years or 80000 miles whichever comes first. Customer pay work is more money for the dealership than warranty work so they might have convenently overlooked this.

I asked about the warranty, they stated it was not covered.... guess I'll call again today and double check. He stated they called and verified on my extended warranty too.

Yes very frustrating....

Truck has some mods for hauling a truck camper and extra lights and a transfer flow replacement 60 gallon tank.
The motor, drivetrain, exhaust, etc... are 100% stock.
dealer has done 100% of the maintance work.

Of course now all weekend the engine light has stayed off

Is this something I can just wait until it happens again or runs rough?

X2 on the federal emissions warranty, the warranty books spell it out clearly..........

Anytime the CEL comes on the code is logged and there is an electronic log of code, when the code set, duration of code, count of times code set. So even if the light went out it is still logged in the ECM and that info can be retrieved when the tech plugs in. Where are you located? Here in California we have the Bureau of Automove Repair or BAR. You file a complaint with them and things get handled pretty fast. The dealer is dead wrong on it not being covered under the Federal Emissions warranty. This is mandated by the government.... not Dodge or Cummins.

This was the reply from the dealership I got asking about if it was part of the Emissions Coverage. And I've asked again with Federal Emmisions Coverage in caps this time.

''Hi Elliot,

I have checked the coverage for the module, sensors, and wiring overlay and found that neither of these items are covered under any of the remaining Chrysler provided service coverage for your VIN number. If you were still within the 36 month or 36,000 mile factory warranty then they definitely would be. However, that coverage expired on January 4th of this year.''

Note that I am at 77K miles this morning....
Goes in tomorrow I guess I'll have to swipe the CC and then file a complaint somewhere. This is stupid. Sorry trying not to rant.....

Where do i find this? link on the web for a 2011 truck? I looked in my glove box and don't see much about the federal emissions warranty and I factory ordered and bought the truck new.

I would ask to see that in writing........Usually any part of the emission control system is covered, that if inoperable, would make the truck a polluter. I would think an O2 sensor is just that. Maybe someone with an 2011 truck can look in their books, it may be different than the 2014 manuals.

I think in california we actually get 8 and 80,000.......bummer! You mentioned you have an extended warranty, that won't cover it?

I don't have the details on me (at work) but the dealer sold extended warranty was already checked on by the service manager. I bought the ''Platnum'' version to 100K. But you know how that goes. The service guy called it a powertrain extended warranty. And O2 sensors and stuff are not covered.

Guess I'll be filling in the Consumer Reports Auto Reports this year on my truck when it comes.

I'm just frustrated.

Interesting twist.
Dealer called asked to reschedule my appointment. Asked if the light is still on.
I stated it's been off since I left your shop on Friday. He said let's reschedule for next week but only do the actual work if the light pops back on.

He is NOT convinced Chrysler/RAM/Fiat have this O2 sensor issue figured out. He has seen to many of these and that it seems that even the Programming updates, O2 sensor, Module, and wiring overlay is not 100% fixing the issue. And he is not 100% convinced that this is even a ''problem''.

So I load up the camper tomorrow night and do another 800 miles this weekend.

Will see what happens. I'll keep my $705 a little bit longer I guess.

I have had horrendous problems with the O2 sensors, DPF, Wiring harness and P2000 code. So many in fact that the dealers across the country take one look at the history and still honor the emissions warranty @57,000 under some "existing problem" grace period Chrysler has. Its pretty routine, I use the CEL to get a rental car pretty much every time I take it in, so I don't have to wait for them to do any other service.. just head to work, pick it up in the afternoon.
I noticed last time though they are starting to steer me in the direction of "you dont drive it hard enough." I'm sure that will be the end of my warranty service after a couple more visits. I'm sorry but if towing a 10000lb gen-set back and forth across the country isnt hard enough I dont know what is.

Update,

So the weekend, loaded up the Truck camper and put 900 miles on the truck, no codes again. We'll see what happens the rest of the week, appointment is scheduled for Thursday.
