Just to let everyone know (I couldn't find the post where we discussed this) - the DrawTite 7 pin adapter harness from etrailer.com that adds an additional 7 pin outlet in the bed doesn't work on the 2011 Dodge 3500. I ordered the part number specified here on the forums and in the TDR magazine and apparently Dodge has changed the plug at the 7 pin connector from a rectangular configuration (as supplied on the DrawTite harness) to a round configuration on the new trucks.



Hey, it was a good try and would have greatly simplified things if it had worked!! I just wanted everyone to be aware that somewhere along the line the connectors had changed.

Hey Rusty, I had the same problem. There are only two types of connectors used and apparently Dodge stopped using the square and switched to the round style connector in 2010. This is the same style that Chevy and Furd use. You should be able to exchange your Dodge DrawTite cable for a Chevy/Furd.



I think the BARGMAN 90° harness is the most heavy duty and has a 90° bend at the plug so it fits up in the bed rail nicely. I got mine here Trailer Parts Superstore - Fifth Wheel or Gooseneck Wiring Harness, #5197410

Unfortunately, I don't have time. I'll have to cut the double plugs off the DrawTite harness and resort to the tried-and-true method of tapping into the wires going to the OEM plug and soldering/sealing the DrawTite wiring into the circuit(s).

Sorry to hear that...

Just a thought, is your trailer wire long enough to go to the factory bumper plug? If so, you could just do that until you have time to exchange. I know what you mean about resorting to the tried-and-true method, but I always felt leery about my seal job after the fact. Any trouble years later, I'd always suspect my "tap job" 1st and hate to think about cutting into that mess. These new harnesses seem like the professional way to go. I don't know... Do what ya gotta do though. Been there, done that...

I'm admittedly an old f***, but I'd trust a GOOD solder joint that's properly sealed more than I'd trust a plug-in connection. I will admit, though, that the plug-in harnesses make the job a lot simpler and quicker.
