So not to drag this out too much longer but apparently Chryslers recommendation to the dealer was to change out the wiring harness on the O2 sensors... So that'll be happening next week. Meanwhile I wrote a note to Chrysler on the form at the Ram website and they got back to me in two hours to let me know that these were issues I needed to resolve through my local dealer.

There is a TSB dated March 1 that has the latest repair procedure for these codes. Generally if the dealer had contacted STAR they would have walked them through this procedure even before the TSB was issued. It is a simple fix to the O2 wiring. The repair is to crimp the connectors. Some technicians try and solder them instead and it can melt the insulation and further insulate the connection.

Dealer service departments with low skill parts changers and a culture of profit over good training, quality workmanship, and effective supervision probably create more service visits and warranty claims than we know. Owner tinkering and modification often make the problem even worse.

AKorner, I hope every thing works out for you. After reading quickly through this thread, the Fuel system flush, using a cleaner was routinely done on my 04. 5 CTD at 20K mile intervals, but was recommended every 15K miles, and was done once on my C&C from the same dealer. I never had any problems, the dealer I use now just changes the fuel filter and has not tried to sell me any cleaner. I can't say for certain that was the root cause of your problems but I doubt that was the cause. That procedure has been used since the 07. 5 6. 7 CTD have been in production, if there was a problem it would of caused a TSB to be issued by Dodge and the practice would have stopped. The reason it was done at my selling dealership was the maintenance agreement for free oil changes, was that the other maintenance services recommended had to be performed at normal prices (no coupons or specials) to get the oil changes for free. The dealer I use now is because the dealer I bought my truck from was sold to another dealership and in my opinion screwed up a popular dealership, so I now patronize a dealer closer to me, if they recommend the fuel flush cleaning on my C&C with the 6. 7 I might refuse due to your issue.

I think your doing the right thing and maybe it will wake Dodge up and they will get serious about the glitches the emission systems cause on our CTD's. The early 6. 7's had growing pains and Dodge/cummins seemed to have worked them out for the most part, but complicated systems can be a nightmare on these computerized sensor ridden trucks, and your seems to have developed glitch. Good luck with your Lemon Law.

For the record, Chrysler issued a bulletin a couple of years ago reiterating the position that they do not support the use of any flushing. But since the dealers are independent businesses, they are free to do what they want regardless of the recommendations from the manufacturer. Since then they have re-issued it at least once.

As for the lemon law, hopefully your truck is paid for because under CA law you will have to pay a use fee of approximately 20% (based on the mileage at the failure of 26,000 mi) of the purchase price. If you owe more than 80% of the purchase price you will have to write a check to the lender for the difference to complete the deal. You might not like that part of it, but it is the law.

I'm optimistic that this will lead to some action either a permanent fix or replacement. All I know is that I can't keep dropping it at the dealer for 3 or 4 days and incurring a rental car charge because its ready but I can't get 20mi into the valley due to work until a Saturday. AND Im not going to IGNORE the light that's been on for 10k miles now on my brand new (ish) $50k truck. I bought it expecting 10yrs and 200k mi. which im pretty confident it will do. after that- whatever.

I was not aware of the TSB on the 6. 7 concerning a cleaner or flushing of the fuel system. I always thought the tech introduced a cleaner into the filter then proceeded with the job. I'm guess I was lucky it was only done one time.

It isn't that the cleaners/flushes are harmful, most of the products are from established companies that have been selling their ware for years. It is mostly about them not being necessary. we like to call them wallet flushes.

Back i 99 i bought a new 2500 ctd, had it in the shop 13 times between sept. and nov. , went with the lemon law, chrysler sent me letter saying that every issue was dealt with by the dealer, i pressed for arbitration and 2 weeks before it went to arbitration, chrysler called me and said they would honor the lemon law and would build me a 2001 CTD, so i wound up getting a 2001 in feb. 2000, and never had any trouble out of it, the 99 had different problems every time i took it back to the dealer, anyway when i was picking up my 2001 and cleaning out the 99, a salesgirl walked by, stopped and said ,so you're the one that bought that truck, i said yeah and now i'm giving it back, she said she was going to buy it when it first came in, but the mechanics told her to leave it alone, said it had too many problems, even after they took it back, they sent it to another dealer in a different town and tried to pass it off as Demo that only the owner of Bonham chrysler drove, the new owner found out that it was previously owned and contacted me about it, said he was having a whole bunch of problems and they wouldn't fix them, so i sent his lawyer all my paperwork on the arbitration with Chrysler and the new owner got a NEW CTD when all was said and done, Good luck and don't let them bully you, monte

They might get away with that in Texas, but in California EVERY buyback has the title branded by the DMV as a lemon.

There was even a truck earlier this year that was built with the wrong gear ratio. It is technically illegal to change it for emissions reasons. Chrysler repurchased it and replaced it with a truck with the correct ratio and still had to brand the old one as a lemon. That probably cost them another $10k in lost value.

Hello All,

I figured I'd update this post since I hate it when they just end with no resolution. In the past 6 months I sued Chrysler successfully under CA lemon law. After some haggling the best deal for me ended up being a "cash & keep" arrangement. They were having trouble delivering the 2013's and I was optimistic that it could be fixed since the wiring harness TSB had come out, however it has not. After the new wiring harness I had about two days of no MIL but then it came back. Now it seems go off and on about once a week, it usually turns off for a day or two after a long drive.

My biggest problem was I couldn't get a current registration without a smog check, and it wouldn't pass smog with the MIL illuminated but I was able to get the dealer to turn off the light and drove it straight to the smog station to get my renewal. Now at least I can drive it until I can take a look at the 2014. 5's.

Its too bad because I liked this truck and I actually like the interior better than the new ones, but its been a real PITA.
