I just heard a "rummer" that said the 2012 Dodge Ram pickups with 6. 7 Engines will have to use the Urea DEF. The info was from a Dodge Dealer, who informed a friends brother who was in the process of buying a new Dodge Ram. He ended up buying a 2011, instead of ordering the 2012 model because of what the Dodge sales person told him in regards to the DEF issue.

Has anyone heard of this?

They don't "have" to use it. They could keep doing what they're doing now. Perhaps someone in the know figured out that this is the best way to go, espescially with upcoming FE standards. That would be a good reason to wait for a 2012 IMO.

I'd hope they do go with the DEF !!

Seems like many of the CTD specific issues could go away. With DEF, GM sites are reporting very few issues, no oil dilution, less regens, less egr/sooting, higher efficiency/mpg.

Oil dilution is a big deal, read dealer release sheets does not spec def except for cab and chassis unless it has recently changed posted new dealer change 2012 cheat sheet here and it did not mention def on 25 35 00 series as it is not required to meet EPA specs talked to my dealer and ram box is coming and cosmetics other than ho specs and some new colors. the chevy def setup seems more evolved and reduces or solves with a different engineering concept.

So what your saying is your friends brother found a good salesman

Sounds like he found a salesman that wanted make a sell. That's the usual line- next year's model has something catastrophically wrong with it, you should buy today!

I also had a salesman tell me that the vinyl in an ST was actually leather! I've learned that you don't ask salesman any questions about the truck unless you already know the answer and want to see if they're honest or will fill you with BS.

From Ram press release-

"Diaz said Ram will continue to not require the use of desel exhaust fluid to meet emissions. It will remain urea-free, using Cummins technology to reduce NOx without DEF refills. "

Of course things change, but considering this press release is only a few months old, I'd be surprised to see urea on the 2012 models.

That's why I don't deal with a salesman or a F&I person. I know the dealer principle and go directly to him with my pre-prepared order sheet in hand and make my deal. I don't have the time nor the patience to waste time with an uninformed salesman and/or a F&I person.
