2012 year only! Max tow with 3.73 or 4.10 DRW????

I'm on an RV forum and we are have a discussion on whether the max tow can be 3.73 and or 4.10's for the DRW. This question only applies to the 2012 year only. A couple of the members have in their sig's max tow 3.73. Mine is max tow 4.10's.

I thought that you could only get 4.10's with the max tow? Also, if you could get the 3.73's would you still get the finned rear diff cover?

I'm almost sure that the "Max Tow" for 2012 the 4.10 was the only choice.

From what I have heard the late model year trucks could have 3.73 AND max tow AND the fined cover. I don't think there is anything "official", it is just the way they came.

When I bought my 2012 Max tow, it only came with 4:10's. The distinction was the aluminum finned cover on the rear end housing as I was told..

My rig has 3.73 and the finned rear diff cover. Don't know if it's max tow or not. It has the dual trans coolers too. All I remember is it has a high enough GCVW to cover my 14,500 lbs 5er with a nice safety margin.

From what I just found out, you could order the 3.73 with max tow. The person that has this setup, told me he had to drive 2000 miles to pickup the truck. So, it looks like the norm would be 4.10 and 3.73 had to be ordered special. It's weird, cause 2-3 guys on the RV forum have their max tow with 3.73 listed in their sig's. Never seen it listed anywhere else like that on the other forums. Can anyone really confirm this, it just one of those stupid things that's bugging me. Yes, I have no life....lol.

Well, according to the person that has the 3.73 with the finned diff cover, you have the max tow pkg too! You can now join the max tow club, Bud!!!

When the max tow package was first introduced, the only option was the 4.10's. I'm not sure exactly when, but later (I know for sure 2012) they did offer 3.73 with the package.

Yes the 12 3:73 was Max Tow if it had the rear cover. My late HO 11 is no different except I don't have the factory finned cover but I do have the MagHytec cover that holds MUCH more fluid. So I call mine the MAX MAX TOW w/3:42's!

My understanding is the Max Tow for '12 is a second oil cooler and a finned rear diff cover. My '12 3500 DRW Max Tow has the 3.73 gears. My window sticker shows 3.73 as stock gears. I seem to remember seeing 4.10 gears as a option on the windows of other trucks. My mfg date is 7/12

It's amazing how a simple gear change in the Max tow option can drive some of us crazy, because Ram has made it so confusing on the order sheets and the window stickers. GEEEZZZZZZ... LOL
