Interesting item being offered by SteveWhite Motors but it appears they have converted a center console shifter from either a JeepGrandCherokee or a RAM 1500 and along with the factory wiring kit,and shifter cable assembly made a kit now available for 2013-2015 RAM 2500/3500 68RFE transmission's.This kit also allows for the ERS system as well by moving the shifter sideways in the "D" position.Price is 538.00 plus ship....View attachment 95776View attachment 95775

Over on the Cummins forum, there are a couple of old threads about this mod, complete with parts lists and how to' instructions. I think it is pretty cool and would jump all over this but it is only for the 68RFE transmission.

Yes I think it looks goodto as well,it has a 24 month warranty with it as well. They cannot enter it in STAR record for V.I.N,as a accessory add-on,like a radio upgrade or a ITBM.It would just be a parts warranty. They claim this would not effect the warranty of the truck at all.I hesitate because of losing the nice storage for dropping stuff from my hands right into the box, while it is snowing or raining. It makes for a quick entry. The shifter storage has a small amount but can hold a phone,I also see it does have a charger connection as well.

Why would you want to do this?

It takes the gear shifter out of your way of seeing the other buttons/dials on the dash? Not sure how much the gear selector is in the way for that. That big gear shifter is really a hold over from the old 3 on the tree manuals anyway. No reason to have such a big gear selector anymore.

It puts the plus/minus gear selector in an easier to reach place.

I have the G56. Some might say..... why would you want a G56? Everyone has their own preferences. I can see advantages/tradeoffs, to all 3 configs. Then again, you don't have a gear 1 or gear 2 selector. If you're not always pulling wagons around the yard, you can probable do without the gear 1 /gear 2 shift position.

Also, it makes your truck different than all the others that didn't mod it with that aftermarket mod.

I suppose that's cool, for those wanting it there. Personally I think it takes up space, for something you're really not reaching for unless you're putting it in drive or park. At least on the steering column it doesn't take up any space and is out of the way.

During the days of my problem child 2014 truck, one of the rental vehicles I had was a new 1500 Ram with the console shifter. I liked the console shift, a bit of a throwback to the fifteen years I drove my 2001 with the six speed.

I think it might be alittle easier to shift from O/D down through the gears when towing are 5th wheel up long grades.By just pushing the shifter to the right gets you out of O/D.If your arm is resting on the console it would be easier just to reach forward and tap the shifter to the right rather than moving up to the colunm and having to look briefly towards the column mount to aim for the ERS button.

I agree......:) plus, the console bucket in my truck always ends up full of junk.......no bucket, no junk...right?

does anyone know if this would work in a 2016?
I had a 2012 and did this, I kept the parts but the 16 looks a little different

thanks

I bet it would but for one thing........the console bucket on the 2016's has a different shape, the corners are rounded compared to the square cut corners on the 2015 and down trucks.

Do the instructions also include how to get the column shifter off the tree??????

I was going to ask that as well, do you have a useless little stub left over when you take the column shift handle off??

Then it would look like any of my friends cars back in the '70s when they did away with the three on the tree and stuck a Hurst shifter from JC Whitney up through the floor board...:D

That's what I noticed also.
Just wondering if anyone tried it....

Over on the Cummins forum, there is a long thread on this mod.......Evidently the shift lever comes off easy and you buy the column cover for a 1500 truck that comes with the console shifter.

I was surprised that one does not appear to be included with the Steve White kit, maybe it's not in the picture???

Mike.

The thread over there is a couple of years old, one of the members did all the parts number chasing/engineering on their own and tried it. The ebay kit seems a bit cheaper than I remember from the thread, I bet it's not included.

It seems the best cost factor is the console shifter assembly I had seen it as low as 297.00 plus ship.Add in the rest and it jumps to about 500.00

I have seen this mod done on a 2015 Ram with the Aisin up here. It was done last fall shortly after he purchased the truck new.
