Does the new 2013 that uses the DEF have a Cat Regen cycle? I got out of my truck the other day and smoke was coming from under the truck. I'm concerned that it was hot enough to start melting stuff under the truck. It has only happend 1 time and I have 5,800 miles on it.

And don't worry about melting stuff. When you get a chance, crawl under and take a look under the passenger side. There's enough protective flashing and insulation around all of the hottest parts!

My wife said she saw a regen message once when driving our 2013. It's got just over 8000 miles and I've never seen a message. She also said it smelled different.

There are two types of regens. Active and passive. The passive regens happen regularly and you will not get a message on the EVIC. The active regens are a more aggressive regeneration (deeper cleaning of the DPF) and will display a message on the EVIC.
That's the cliffs notes version.

Here's a page on cummins that explains a little more.

Thanks for the info. Will using Bio-Blend diesel have any affect? It's almost impossible to find 100% diesel where I am.

Cummins and ram have stated that the 2013 and up engines are certified to use B20 Diesel fuel. This should be in the owner’s manual somewhere. My 08 allows only B5 Diesel this is stated in the owner’s manual.

That is one of the nice things about the 13+ vs 07.5-12 6.7, the 13+ has the DPF closer to the motor so passive regen happens much easier when towing and even when empty. Passive regen was not very effective on the earlier 6.7's.

Before the truck got a free breathing upgrade a friend of mine would watch his regens, 150-180 miles towing or empty. Even with the increased EGT's of towing a passive regen just didn't do much.
