Ok, so I'm back with my P20EE code for the 4th time. Only this time I was going to leave it for the dealer to clear last 2 times I cleared it myself. Only issue with my thought was that about 450-500 miles after the CEL turned on the truck went into a limp mode, lost power. Being about 1400 miles from my dealer it was a bit too far to drive at low power I checked the scan tool to find the same P20EE code again. Clear the code truck comes back to life. Finish my trip total of 3550 miles I don't get the CEL again. However I did bring it in to the dealer and inform them of the issue just like the past 4 times. This time they find a Star case open pending with RAM and a whole test procedure to go through. Actually they find a few star cases open one dealing with the Ram air box door system and the P20EE code issues. Ram wants them to test the doser system and as long as it's putting out the right amount of DEF they are to replace the SCR Cat. It seems Ram and Cummins knows there is some kind of an issue with the SCR system throwing the P20EE code and they are working to solve it. Growing pains... I just find it funny that before I had the computer re-flashed when I installed the larger tires, prior to that flash I never had a CEL. The Flash was to eliminate the throwing of false codes......

Ok, So after going through the the test procedure that RAM spelled out including the doser flow test RAM says to change the SCR Cat. Part is on order should be in this Wed. I've got my fingers crossed this fixes it as the CEL lamp every 1,000-2,000 is a bit annoying.

Ok it's official the Cat is bad at least that is what RAM says. The Cat lists for $4595 I'm glad I'm not the one paying this bill. It took the tec beter part of the afternoon yesterday to do all the tests that RAM wanted done on the truck and the emmissions system before allowing the Cat to be ordered. First thing you notice about the new Cat is the pipe between the DEF injector nozzle seems longer than the old one. Maybe for better mixing of the DEF in the exhaust stream? I couldn't get a good pic of the two side by side or I would have posted it here. Also there is another computer flash available. I don't have a part number for it as I have yet to receive my invoice (service writer had to leave early) but I can say this about the new flash. First the transmission seems to shift more fermly less more like it did in the tow/ haul mode. 2nd the engine break is a lot more aggressive again more like when the truck is in the tow/ haul mode. I like it, it is an improvement, not that the way it was before was all that bad have always been happy with how this truck has driven.

Good to hear they got it fixed. Now after I find a dealer to go to, I'll see if they will re-flash my 2013...LOL

The guy's here at PortJeff have been very helpful. Went as far as sending someone to my house to get me when the truck was done. If your on Li in Ny give them a shot. Whats also cool is they have a wireless system that they plug into the truck. So they plug this thing in with the truck out in their parking lot. The Tec goes back to his work station inside and can read your truck, connect with RAM flash your truck. He never sits on your seat. No greasy hands on the steering wheel. Not that they have people with that poor a work attitude like other shops I have been to over the years. I'm not sure if other dealers have this system or not but it does make things work smoother/ faster with less risk of damage moving the truck into and out of the work bays. Back when I was a Volvo Penta Marine engine Tec we would have to link our scan tool into Volvo's home before we went to a job, had to have the engine we would be working on ser. number then after the repair was done the info had to be sent back to Volvo. It was a good system just very clumsy. This system RAM is using seems very smooth. you know in real time when you hook up the truck what if any updates are out there. And if you go to your RAM owners web there is a page that will show the maintaince hist of the truck. The RAM owners site will not show if there are updates available though.

Since they replaced your catalytic converter have you had any problems. Mine was done about three weeks ago because I got the screen of death 5mph in 125miles on the screen. I'm going on a 3600 mile round trip next week and just wondering if I should rent a car or take the chance with my truck. Last year I stopped at 4 dealers on the way to Canada from south Florida with the dreaded p20ee code only to get the run around. Seems to be anytime I drive on the interstate for more than a few hours I got a code. I pull tractors with a 35' gooseneck trailer and never have an issue and its maxed out pulling 12 tons. Haven't had a code since they put a new cat on but I haven't been on a long trip either.

I wonder if the SCR catalyst in my converter is bad? Had it in for a code early last month. They updated it and the code returned.

I cleared it, but sort of expect it back. I haven't driven it enough since clearing it to get it back.

It might be that running it 10,000-13,000 miles with wrong programming fouls the caralyst?

Same problem with my 2013 with about 28,000 on the clock

I have gotten the P20EE code twice now. The first time I was towing a 6000# trailer about 65 mph in SC. Called a local dealer but couldn't get in until the next day. I had my scan tool with me and figured that it was not critical, and the dealer told me that as long as the MIL wasn't flashing it was OK to drive. I cleared the codes, but the "permanent code wouldn't go away. After a few miles and a re-start, the permanent code cleared.

This time I was not towing, driving about 70 on the way to visit our daughter. Had three P20EE codes - pending, confirmed, and permanent. Took the truck in to a dealer Saturday morning and they told me it was OK to drive. So tomorrow it goes to my dealer. In warranty, and reading this thread has convinced me to get the extended warranty I've been looking at.

This weekend pulling 14,000 lbs (livestock GN trailer with steers), I got a check engine light that indicates NOx levels out of range.

This seems to happen every time I get below 1/4 tank on DEF tank gauge. (I'm pretty sure the DEF tank is closer to 1/8 full because it is highly inaccurate/non-linear). And I had dropped below 1/4 tank of DEF this time (per gauge)

But I also noticed that my mpg was showing 15 mpg, when hand calculated showed 12.7 mpg.

I wonder what causes these CEL's that are triggered by NOx readings out of range?

Is the DEF pump struggling to pump DEF from the bottom of the tank? Or does it have to do with the inaccurate measure of fuel being used as proven by the inaccuracy of the MPG calculations? I realize the DEF is supposed to be metered in according to fuel consumption. But if fuel measurement is Inaccurate, it might not be calling for enough DEF?

I have never allowed the DEF to get low enough to trigger an EVIC warning (mileage count down) because I'm usually trying to clear a persistent CEL before it gets low enough to see an EVIC warning.

I keep My DEF Tanks 3/4 to Full all the time running them to until 1/4 or less in winter Months could possibly cause premature failure of the DEF heater in temps below 10* regularly. I've work with urea for many years its more stable in large quantities. Many practice with totes when they get below 1/4 they switch to a new one ,when it drops below 3/4 they pump the 1/4 tote over to the 3/4.

I got the code twice. The first time I cleared it, and it was several thousand miles later, but it came back. I left the code in and took the truck in for service. They cleaned the DEF orifice and did some other stuff I don't remember, but I only have about 1K on it since the service so not sure it is fixed yet.

Regarding the mileage, the average mileage shown on the truck is only for the recent past (I don't know how many miles or hours) not from the last reset. If I run a full tank in town or on the road the average is close, within 1 mpg or so. But this weekend I had used about 3/4 tank around town and then 1/4 tank on the highway with an indicated 21 mpg average. Hand calculations said it was 17 mpg. I wish the average was from the last reset, but I don't think it is.

I put 2.5 gallons in today. I have no intention of filling it up. The gauge shows 7/8 of a tank, but it's closer to half full.

In 2 years, I've only put 17,000 miles on it. (8500 per year). I don’t drive it enough to fill the DEF tank.

Cooler weather is around the corner, so I don't expect too much DEF degradation.

I have had continuing P20EE codes since. I cleared one, a dealer cleared one while on a road trip. Several cleared themselves. I took it in again and they did a "de-fuel" or something and some other stuff including a re-flash. Last Tuesday I got it again after driving at 70 or so for a couple of hours. Drove the truck several days around town and it cleared. Friday I drove it home, and again after an hour or so at 70 the code came back. Took it in yesterday afternoon and I got the call this morning they are going to replace the Cat. Hope that fixes it. Having MIL scream "the sky is falling" every few weeks is a real PITA.

I had the P20EE code when I took my truck to the dealer and after checking it out they said that the SCR Catalytic Converter needed to be replaced per TSB 18-088-15. The converter was replaced and at the present I don't have the code.

I would like to have a copy of the TSB 18-088-15. Does anyone know where I can get a copy of this bulletin?

That's weird that they would make a customer request an emissions repair!
A diesel tech said that TSB's are only required if the customer requests it. Recalls and RRT's should be done at any time within specified time???..

Ok so after 7300 miles of bliss I got my first CEL. Trip to the Dealer as I can't seem to read the codes at home, and Code P20EE shows up. Ok so Code P20EE is the Cat below threshold. Dealer seems to think that it's sub standard DEF fluid. Here's the kicker I've only added 2.5 gal of PEEK DEF and that was 1300 miles ago. Why would it show up now if the fluid was of poor quality? Only thing that I did out of the normal was park nose down on a steep drive last night. The CEL wasn't on when the truck was parked but it came on at start up. The Tec that knows his job well doesn't feel that it's bad DEF fluid but is stumped as for why the CEL came on. Hope this is not the start of stupid isues...
On another note there are a few updates out for the transmission shifting and E Break as well as the SAT radio. I don't have the part numbers for the flashes but they do make the truck and e break shift and work better.

Hello Sir, my dodge has the same code. The dealership just worked on it and they cleaned the injector. It's been 2 weeks and it's on again! I ordered a new DEF injector through eBay. We're out of warranty so throwing parts at it is out of the question. Can you offer me any info? My email is -- email address removed -- iam new to this site and iam not sure iam asking a question in the right spot. Thanks for any information

Check
to see if your truck will be involved in the S47 recall that covers the scr cat and a flash.

This is a very common code. I had the P20EE code, reset it and haven't seen it since. DEF fluid is good. Code came on after long highway run towing and then shutdown for lunch. Code came on upon start up, but I cleared it and went on.
