Now that I have my new 2014 Dually, what tire pressure should I be running when not loaded? Right now I have the fronts at 75, the rear outer at 60, and the rear inner at 57.

Also, I seem to be getting a vibration that will shake my coffee in my cup holder from 70 to 75 mph. I guess this means I should have the dealer balance the tires.

The vib could be tires or u-joint related, I would definitely have the dealership look at it.

As far as air pressure I would think anything in the 50-60 range would be good, but tread wear and tire temp will tell the whole story.

Does your '14 have the air ride suspension? I don't recall if that is an option or standard.

What brand tires do you have? My Dually came with Generals, and they were horrible. We put them on a road force balancer and three of them were so far out of round we couldn't do anything with them. Having them road forced balanced definitely helped, but we didn't solve the problem till I put new michelins on it.

On my dually, I leave the fronts at 65 all the time. The rear I keep at 40 unloaded and when the heavy Arctic Fox 1150 camper goes on I put them up to 80... With the camper and enclosed trailer hooked up my rear axle is in the 9,500# range so i max the air... . this has kept the wear pretty even and I've never had a tire issue. I just air up the tires and air them down as part of my unload or loading of the camper chore... .

Right now I have 50 on the front and 40 in the rears. I have been playing around to find my sweet spot. I also have the feeling that my tires are out of balance as the truck will shake even on smooth roads. I have a buddy who has a road force balancer that is going to give them a whirl.

This, shake between 70-80mph, is being discussed to death on another forum. . You're not the only one having this problem and the fix seems to be getting a different brand of tires and having them road forced balanced. .

Powder, I have the General Ameritracs. The dealer has promised to look at the tires and find out if there is a bad tire. I sure hope we can solve this through the dealer. I promised my wife this time around I would not be messing with this truck, no lifts, no wheels, no tires. I would hate to have to go to her and tell her I had to put new tires on the truck.

Mine changed for the better when I removed the Generals and installed the Michelins from my 04 on it. I would think with the purchase of a $55,000 dollar truck we could get some good tires on it?

The tire pressures you are running while empty are way too high. There should be a tire guide in the original paperwork for your truck. My 03 3500 calls for 55 front and 40 in the rear dually while empty. 65 all around when fully loaded. I used a liable maker to post the different pressures inside the drivers side door. Your vibration problem may be added to by using high pressures. To evaluate your tires ask your shop to spin the rims by themselves and then with the tires mounted. I have had problems with steel rims in the past. Balancing assumes the center hole is in the center and matches the runout of the outer rim. Sometimes that is way off.

Check the door jam sticker. 2013 3500 Dually runs 80 psig in the front, and 65 psig in the rear. I weighed my 2013 truck brand new and the front axle weighed 5260, rear was 3560, for a total of 8820# with just me and 3/4 tank of fuel, the truck was otherwise empty! The front axle on my 03 called for 65 also, but when your truck is empty, the front axle is close to GAWR (5200# for the 2003 dually, 6000# for the 2013 dually) all the time. There is no reduced load air pressure for a lightly loaded 2013 dually that I can find anywhere as of yet, unlike the 2003 owners manual.

On my '12 I run 65 in front, and 40 in the rear unloaded. I put the rears up to 65 loaded. The truck is smooth as silk this way. No vibration when empty, and the tires are at 65, but the ride is rough as a cobb!

I think you will find that the front tires are overloaded on a 2013 dually Cummins 4X4 Asin at 65 psig. Our tires at 65 psig are rated at only 2,680# per tire on the front and 2560# per tire on the rear. Probably plenty of capacity on the rear, but based on my trucks weight empty, the front tires are at their load limit on an empty truck.

Now that I am back home again, I'll drop the rear tire pressure tomorrow and take the truck for a ride. I feel like pointing the finger at the tires and blaming them for the issue is probably not all that fair. The truck is smooth as silk everywhere except in the passenger seat and center console (I have the bench seat). If the cab or seat mounts or seat frame was more rigid I don't think this would even be an issue. Am I thinking about this correctly?

I'm tempted to take the truck to Les Schwab tomorrow and have them balance all 6 tires. This would cost me some money but it will also save me a huge hassle and a lot of time instead of taking it to the dealer 45 minutes away who then has to take it to another tire shop. On the other hand Ram needs to know about this.

By the way, this is a small issue and this truck is awesome.

Road force balancing all six cost me $48. It definitely helped, but as I said never went away till I replaced them all with michelins.

In my opinion it's worth the 50 bucks to try

Set the rear tire pressures at 42 inside and 45 outside. Drove the truck on the freeway about 60 miles and it was perfect. No vibration or harmonics. Fronts are at 72 and they look loaded, like I don't want to take them any lower.

Your front tires will start showing cupping very soon! The Generals are junk! 25K on mine and they were 2/3 worn. Had a big tread separation on a front tire at 25K and went to Michelin MS/2. They are wearing very well.

I run 80 in the front and 45 rear while running solo. With over 4,500# pin weight I run 60 psi in the rear towing.

Anyone running less than 80 in the front of a Ram Dually 4X4 will wear the edges off fast.
