I would leave it stock, since 2003 the OEM air box has been really hard to beat and the filter is unmatched in flow and filtration.

Some individuals on another forum have posted their experience with the S&B intake. However, I personally would wait until someone comes out with an intake that takes a donaldson powercore filter. Also, the stock intake has an enormous advantage that the other 2 OEM intakes don't have. It can be a true cold intake air filter, or it can suck warmer air from the fender. So it would be near impossible to plug a RAM's intake filter from snow and it opens up the cold air intake when it really needs it, like high in the mountains or when its somewhere above 90 degrees ambient temperature.

In the old days there was a lot of room for customization, and some of it was an improvement. Today, the engine and drivetrain are pretty much where we need them to be, and you can save your money for the obvious aftermarket add-ons like the B&W hitches, Transfer Flow tanks, camper shell. When shopping, instead of searching for the lowest priced stuff, get the best value and remember how much you saved not getting unnecessary stuff like air intakes and power boxes.

This is a "Brave new world" for me also, my 6th Dodge Cummins truck. The previous 5 have all been modified to make them do a better job of towing, spent thousands over the years for the latest gottahavits. The 2013 of mine is such a spectacular towing rig that other than Pac air bags the rig is gonna stay bone stock.. Dont really see the need to modify under the hood, Chrysler got it right this time in spades.

Well, you nailed some of it. I live in Florida and it gets mighty hot here in the summers, I do long drives of 4-6 hours a day each way (Orlando to Jax, Orlando to Miami, Orlando to Naples) and back in the same day. I know that the stock systems are major upgrades over the past I just want to keep as much cooler air coming into my cummins as possible as for the late spring to late fall it's warm here and the more cool I could get in the truck the better.

I'll keep my eyes opened I was just reading about this system in Diesel World and was wondering if anyone had experience. I normally would wait for a AFE or Banks system but seems like they are not moving that fast on 2014's.

You must be towing really heavy to have issues with heat? I have been on some STEEP mountain grades at well over 28,000# combined weight in 100 degree heat and NEVER saw more than 210 engine temp and never saw 200 degrees in the trans.

I don't have issues with heat right now... I am just looking to avoid them. I figured this was a cheap way to add some air... sounds like the feedback is to not do from all I'm reading.

I've been running the S&B in my 7.5 for a long time now. More because it saves me money on filters. and it has the plexiglass window so I can see when my air filter needs cleaning. I have quite a few mods on my truck and have not noticed any air flow problems. I prefer S&B to banks and AFE due to price and the ability to see the air filter without removing anything. ")

Thank you - I am looking at both the AFE and the S&B's right now. The claims from AFE are quite a bit higher in airflow. Seems like they are keeping both the Ram air as well as the side open where S&B is butterflying between the two. Keeping both open makes sense to me... but I'm still reading.
