Newby A Little Puzzled by Hitch Classes

I am looking at a 2014, 3500 4x4 cc LB SRW Cummins/Aisin with 18'' wheels (12300 gvw) to tow my Montana 5th (34') using a B&W companion hitch.

Anyone have a similar setup with a Montana 5th and what bedrail clearance was there.

Rambody builder list the rail at 59" and suppose that is an empty tank truck and no gear or passengers. When loaded with the pin weight of about 2700 lbs, is the truck bed lowering enough to make 5" to 6" clearance between top of tailgate and bottom of 5th overhang?

Any pics would be appreciated. Not wanting a nose up towing setup.

Thanks. That thread was interesting.

Interesting tho was they had to raise the level 5th to keep tailgate clearances once hitched up to a SRW :(

I'm hoping someone with a Montana 5th brand hooked up can give some clearances on a 2013-2014 SRW 3500 (which is higher than a DRW) since the level 5th overhang bottom height to ground varies by brand.

I don't want to get 6" bedrail to bottom of overhang clearance by a nose up approach. I understand moving the 5th hitch/pin height settings in relationship to bed depth but that is not the question. The distance from the bottom of a level 5th overhang to top of bedrail on a Montana regarding a 2013-2014 3500 SRW 4x4 is the concern after the truck has settled with the pin weight.

I am wondering other Montana or equivalent overhang height owners have run into on the new Ram 3500 SRW 4x4 trucks. The 2013 3500 model springs are progressive so how much settling needs a real life test and hoping someone has gone thru this. 3/4 ton truck is different, I'm looking at the 3500.

In 2011 I had a SB F350 4x4 SRW to a Bighorn 5th. Dealers said it would be fine. In real life the unit ended slightly nose up to get clearances.

on 4x4 there 5 spacers-- 3 in one group and two at the bottom. move them to the top of the spring pack to lower the bed by that amount+ all 5 = approx 4 inches

I have this truck, full of fuel it's closer to 58" than 59 " at the tailgate. Level your trailer and measure to the ground, and do the math......Mine is 65 inches and I ended up with right at 7 inches of clearance, trailer is level after hooking up. My trailer only has about 1700 lbs of pin weight and only settles 1.5 inches, the clearance doesn't really change as the truck settles due to the pin weight.

Mine is not built this way, there are only three spacers that look about 3/8" thick that can be moved.

I will probably do the same, not that crazy about the rear high look........Is there an alignment issue after you pull them or is there an aligmnent pin or something similar to keep things straight.

I have done this on my 2012 3500 dually 4x4. Dropped bed maybe 1:5 inch not enough to solve problem , now looking at turning axles on camper to the bottom of the spring instead of the top of the spring. Any help wold be great, also trying to change ratio from 4:10 to 3:42 or 3:55 to improve mpg, truck has way to much powe.
