Recall
https://www.usatoday.com/story/money/cars/2018/08/02/fiat-chrysler-ram-pickup-recall/887544002/
Fiat Chrysler is recalling about 1.1 million pickups in the U.S. to fix a defect that could result in their tailgates flying open while in motion.

The automaker issued a recall to fix the power-locking mechanisms in the tailgates of certain Ram pickup trucks.

The company said it had not identified any injuries or accidents connected to the defect.

The recall covers a portion of Ram 1500, 2500 and 3500 pickup trucks from the 2015 through 2017 model years.

Pickups in that range with manual tailgate locking are not affected. Pickups with eight-foot cargo beds are also not affected.

The recently redesigned 2019 Ram is also not affected. Engineers installed a different system for that model.

Fiat Chrysler said it's important for customers to remember "that all loose cargo should be secured while driving, as stated in the operating manuals of the affected vehicles."

Wonder how they deal with the recall if the tailgate is stored out in the shed?

I was following some guy with a 1500 this afternoon, a very overloaded 1500. First good bump he hit his tailgate popped open. Hello Recall.... Good thing his pallet of concrete mix was well wrapped.

After watching the video I have to ask why this does not affect the long bed trucks and why only the 2015 up. Presume the long beds have a different (metal?) part. The video covered more years than the recall so, hummmmmmm, is there more to come on this?

Now I have two to do this fall. The shifter and the tail gate. I will wait unit I am back in Arizona this fall. Maybe by then I can get a 3 for. SnoKing

What does "D2" mean?

FCA US LLC (FCA US) has announced a safety recall on certain 2015 through 2017 model year (D2) RAM 3500

It's just the model designation, it means it is a 3500 within a certain year range (probably 2013+ until the 5th gens come out).

Already had my entire lock actuator replaced because mine opened six times. Now I wonder if that service included the described fix.

Is the fix in the tailgate or the bed? My tailgate is in the shed as my bed cap replaces it.

The fix is in the tailgate, it has to do with the electric lock assembly. Disconnecting the electric lock is a temporary fix that stops the tailgate from opening on its own. Using the key to lock and unlock still works. I pull a 5th wheel RV, the tailgate coming open while on the road would be catastrophic to both the tailgate and the 5er, my power lock is disconnected. I have a 2014 2500 not yet in the recall but I'm not taking any chances.

I have had the tail gate recall completed. You still need to firmly close the tail gate or it will still fall open.

The 67 pound concrete wall blocks would have been a lot harder to load at Lowes today with the tail gate welded closed!!!

OK folks, received my recall notice (V44) yesterday. I guess now it does include long bed trucks. Will call the dealer and get it scheduled.

got the tailgate recall today. 2018 longbed cc tradesman 2500. only 1.5 years old. how many recalls is normal for the 4th gen trucks? seems like alot so far, in my humble opinion. 3 so far. cheers!
