Today I test drove a 2015 eco diesel in Laramie trim. My regular rig is a 2006 2500 CTD. I was really shocked at the turbo lag on initial acceleration from a stop. It was very noticeable and during the test drive I had to come to a complete stop at least 10 times so it wasn't a one off type of experience.

For all you eco diesel owners out there, is this something you experience? Was I driving a truck with a performance quirk? Far as I know the truck is stock and it has about 34K on the odometer. They are asking around $38000 for the truck.

I'm on the fence between this truck and a very low mile hemi.

I would consider the Hemi first, too many ECO Diesel (A model) engine failures. Check history first, it could possibly be a buy back, before purchase.

I drove my buddy's Eco a few times and didn't notice any excessive turbo lag. BUT, he just got rid of it and went back to a Hemi. It was a 2015 with 62,000 and he got the dreaded 'will shut down in xxx miles' light. Dealer replaced some sensor and thought it was good to go. About 40 miles later, light came on again. This time dealer says it could cost between 3k and 6k between labor and parts cost and would take at least 10 to 12 days. So, he traded it on a Hemi. It was a pretty good truck until then, but I personally would not get an Eco with the issues that seem to pop up.

I don't tow as much as I used too and when I do my load is less than 8800Kg. I think the 1500 will be fine. Thanks for posting.

A twelve year old can work on my 2006. The new trucks seem extremely complicated and need a scan tool for everything. Thanks for posting. BTW, when I test drove the truck it had the DPF cycle required alert message.

My 2010 Crew Cab 1500 4x4 only has ~1350# of available payload. The other configurations may vary slightly, but the 1500 chassis isn't known for it's payload capacity. I'm not sure what the tongue weight of your normal trailer is, but I find that the 1500 runs out of payload long before it does towing capacity.

What I have noticed with my truck is if I am moving at say 15 mph and want to accelerate I have to push the go pedal quite a bit before the truck downshifts and then takes off. Seems more like a hesitation than lag. I have gotten used to it, I just punch it then back off. So far my truck has been flawless with no CEL's at all, I did have the SCR replacement within the first six months per a TSB. I ordered my truck in February 2014 took delivery in April and currently have over 120k miles on the truck with no issues at all and it's bone stock.

SHobbs, a good transmission tune can relate to better drivability and sometimes mpg. GDE has a transmission tune for the ED. I don't have experience with it but there is something available.

Is your warranty gone? Will you be modifying your truck after warranty, delete, reprogram etc?

Warranty is long gone, I have been looking at GDE. So far reviews have been real good with them and the mileage bump would help seeing that I am running 130 miles a day for work.

About 20K since the ECU tune and 2K since the trans tune. Yes, T6 and change at 7500 miles.

Thanks for the reply,I am interested in how everything holds up over the long haul.I trained our lube rack guys to drain for at least 15 minutes and to hold off cranking it over for 15 minutes after filling.

My oil seems to drain in less than 5 minutes. When I put the new oil in my dipstick will show full right away. I probably never started it within 15 minutes only because I had no reason to. What's the reason for waiting? Thanks

There were concerns of dry starts on some trucks
