Hello All,

I just purchased and new Ram 3500 and would like to know what engine oil will work and still be with warranty specs. Besides the Mopar.

Thanks

Any brand oil that has the correct rating on the label in 15/40 unless you are in cold climate. All the info is in your owners manual

I have run Shell Rotella T in everything from the lawn mower to my 18 wheeler for the last 25 years with no problems.. I also add some Lucas Oil Stabilizer.

Well, your owner's manual should specify that for anything 0 degrees farenheit or warmer, you can run any 15W-40 that is CJ-4 rated and has either the Chrysler spec or Cummins Spec (CES 20081) on it. If you have weather less than 0 degrees farenheit (but no upper temp limit in the manual), you may run 5W-40 that must also be CJ-4 rated and having either the Chrysler or Cummins spec (again, CES20081). Most oils have these endorsements. I live in the Pacific Northwest and I run 5W-40 Shell Rotella T6 just for those "IF" situations that I'm in the mountain snowboarding and temps dip, or I finally decide to take that winter trip to yellowstone.

I am using NAPA 15W40. It is manufactured by Ashland, the makers and owners of Valvoline. It is on sale this month for $9.99 a gallon.

A lot of the newer big rigs are running syn 10-30 for better fuel economy. MY 14 came with syn it can withstand extremes in temps better.

Thank you for your responses. I finally found the Rams recommendations in the diesel supplement guide. I had been using Delo 400 oil in my 2003 Ram diesel. It has the API CJ-4 / SM rating. Is this oil ok or should I use one of the above reccomended oils?

I believe that 5w-40 and 15w-40 Delo oil with a CJ-4 rating also carries the cummins CES20081 endorsement as well. Should be good enough.

We use Rotela T6 Synthetic in everything. (Diesel) Meets all the regs and you can't beat the price!

We used to use Valvoline Premium Blue 2000 until they priced us out of reach.

I haven't heard a bad thing about Amsoil.....ever! We use it 100:1 in our two-stroke dirt bikes.
