I was wondering if anyone else has had the same problem I recently had or if anyone even knows about it. Recently I sold my 2011 Ram 3500 so I started looking for a 2016 Ram 2500 I called and went to several dealerships and asked them what the horsepower and torque specs were they all said that with an automatic the cummins has 370 hp and 800 ft. lbs. of tq. which was in line with what Ram states on their website. Meanwhile later I started looking at all of their web sites and discovered that if I went to the specification section of each truck and scrolled down about 8 pages almost all of them (except for the Laramie Longhorns which list for $70,000+ too much for me) had horsepower ratings of 350 and 660 ft. lbs. of torque, which is the rating for the manual transmission. So I started calling several dealerships and asking about this some claimed the website was wrong, one refused to believe me even though it was on his dealer website. Finally one of them checked into it and said they special order them this way though he wouldn't state why. Then I went to my local dealer to find out how to figure out for sure what horsepower each truck has through the vin or window sticker to make sure I got the 370 hp. and 800 lb. tq. they did some research for about 45 min. this was a Saturday and they had no idea how to figure it out and never heard of this problem, they said they would call their chrysler rep to figure it out but they never got back with me. I went on Rams website several times and built trucks and every time I clicked on the 68rfe auto trans it automatically jumped the rating from the manual rating of 350 hp & 660 tq to 370 hp & 800 lb it wasn't even possible to get an auto with the lower rating. So my thinking is how many guys went to Rams website and looked into the cummins thought they were getting 370 hp. and 800 lb. ft. with the auto only to receive 350 hp. and 660 lb.ft. So I went back to the dealer and asked them how many guys got a truck with a lot less power than they though should have got. Their response was probably a lot of them or most. I even went to cummins website and they state that with an auto it has 370hp and 800lb ft. So I said I would buy a cummins if they could guarantee and prove to me it has the right power as stated on Rams website they said they couldn't if it came of a lot only if special ordered. So the only solution to me since I needed the truck soon was to find a 3500 with the Aisin and get 385 Hp and 900 lb ft of torque and with air assist suspension. I think this is a way better option anyways just more expensive. I just think if Ram is going to put a less HP. engine in a truck they should advertise as so not pull one over on its customers I was very unimpressed and am wondering how long before someone figures out they got the wrong engine and sues ram. I lost a lot of faith in Ram. Was just wondering if you guys ever had this problem or even know about it yet. Any info I'm sure would be helpful and appreciated by prospective buyers. Thanks

I know the torque is supposed to be rated on the transmission but apparently the dealers are special ordering them with less horse and torque. The auto trans can't magically five a engine more horsepower its all in the programing. Well all I can say is that the only dealer that actually checked into it an called us back said they are SPECIAL ordered that way he said he talked to the person in charge of ordering the trucks at his dealer who told him this he said their website is correct because the Laramies had the higher rating because they are more expensive than Bighorns like I wanted.

If that dealer told ya wolverines made great house pets......would you believe that, too ?????

You've been given the correct information by Snoking. My lowly Tradesman has the 385*850 engine.....the same engine available in any 3500 RAM, regardless of trim level.

Buy the way welcome! But you need to do some more research before posting such wrong information.

BTW these figures about are at the crank shaft like all factory ratings. SNOKING

No I don't believe everything a dealer tells me that's why I started looking at all their websites and noticed they had lower ratings than the salesmen were telling me. And if a salesman tells me a truck has LESS horesepower than its should I don't see how that will benefit him because it prevented a sale. Like I said trim level doesn't matter if you order the truck multiple dealers told me they wouldn't guarente horsepower of any truck on their lot. Just thought people should know this if they are going to spend 60k on a new truck. I know I wouldn't take a risk getting less power when I paid that much.

Sorry, had to do that! In 2015 the model year of my truck they built pickups three ways.

2015
• 350 hp @ 2,800 rpm • 660 lb-ft @ 1,500 rpm (manual trans)
• 370 hp @ 2,800 rpm • 800 lb-ft @ 1,700 rpm (68RFE trans)
• 385 hp @ 2,800 rpm • 865 lb-ft @ 1,700 rpm (Aisin AS69RC trans) Takes a 3500 to get the Aisin BTW! LIKE MINE!!!

The dealer can NOT ordered them differently! Again, welcome to TDR. SNOKING

When I was searching for my truck I looked at hundreds of dealers sites and a thousand trucks. Don't go by those specs. Most of the time it is just standard sales ad specs that they throw on the page. A lot of times it is outdated or just plain wrong. They get a truck in, click a few buttons in their webpage software they got from corporate and post the page. Nobody fact checks that stuff and they aren't website developers. A lot of times they won't even show a real picture of the truck.
Go to the "Window Sticker" link and look at it there. That is a portal out of the dealers site and to Chryslers database. The window sticker is generated within a day the truck rolls off the line.

I don't have factory service manuals newer than the 2008. But up to then, if there were different rated engines, they had a number on the VIN that indicated which engine was in the vehicle. Did they stop that ? If not, the service department would have a copy of the FSM and could let you know then number for the right engine your looking for. Then check VINS.

Many (most) dealers have huge gaps in their knowledge. Most of this is because the salespeople have huge turnover rates. Both dealers I talked to kept telling my my Aisin was an 8-speed. You just have to ignore much of what they say and just get the specs from those that actually know. The correct specs were posted in this thread already so I won't repeat them. If you're looking at a 2016, and going with the Aisin, you'll have 385hp / 900 ft/lbs. If you find a 2015 with an Aisin, you'll have 385hp / 865 ft/lbs (which is what I have).
