2017 oil change

Just had my oils and fuel filters changed for the first time on my 2017. Does $450.00 sound like a lot for this?

I paid 280 for the 15k service at my local dealer (Bill Luke) here in Arizona. Oil change by itself is $75 and fuel filters were around $200 with labor.

I have bought parts on Ebay from Bill Luke. They are competitive. I live in Florida.

With both MOPAR fuel filters at $80 and oil filter at $15 and oil at lets say $50 at a total of around $145 I would say $300 for one hours labor is a BIT HIGH!!!

If these new trucks are no longer prone to fuel washing past the cylinders and into the oil, I highly recommend changing to AMSOIL Signature series. For $450 you can extend your drain interval and take oil samples for a couple years. I deleted my 2010 and haven't changed the oil (less top offs and annual filter changes) for a little over 100K miles. I'm about to take one more oil sample in a couple days (105K miles) before deciding if I should continue or change the oil.

If you plan on having them do it every service that is a significant expense. Unless you are not physically capable both services are easy to do. You will save yourself a pile of cash.

My Dealer sells a 4 oil change plan at a reduced price. It is MUCH cheaper that way.

You buy the 4 oil changes in advance and then they just change it when you bring it in and ask them to.

I like to do my own. They offered the 4 oil change plan to me. I declined.

Some dealers will mark up the filters and oil to make more profit? That is my experience, anyway.

I wonder if the dealer had trouble with the front fuel filter cover? I have seen many on here struggling with that. And sometimes I will also struggle getting the front fuel filter cap off if the seal swells.

My pricing is based on what we can buy at. Dealers have to make money but that is plain bend over and take out your wallet out pricing.

Yes. Considering that most of us shade tree mechanics can change the oil and all three filters (without a lift) in about an hour or less.

I'd think that a $250 to $280 all in price would be fair to have it done by a dealer......

Did they give you a quote first?? If not you left yourself wide open....

They might adjust it if you go back, squeaky wheel scenario.....

In Florida, a quote is required by law. But sometimes they will balk at the quote and just have you sign that you got a quote when you pay and pick up the vehicle.

Well, at least your dealer is honest. Some will claim they know and take a guess as if they know.

I think it comes with Valvoline dino/conventiomal. Mechanics will say to "break in" your engine on dino/conventional before switching to synthetic.

The manufacturer leaves it up to the customer to switch to synthetic if they have below zero temps.

This is my guess. I would not assume they will put synthetic unless I see proof.

The 2016 owners manual states "recommend synthetic..." for the engine, and front and rear axle. I bet the 2017 states the same. Why would they put in something that isn't "recommended"? Plus, what if the truck is shipped when it is cold or to where it might be cold. Would they risk engine damage because they didn't put in synthetic from the factory? I hope Cummins/Ram is smart enough to put in synthetic for where they recommend synthetic.

My dealer stated the factory fill was synthetic.
