Took it to the dealer, the outside edge that is welded on was welded on wrong. He wanted to just grind it, told him to Grind it and take the truck back. So there ordering a new hitch. He tried it there on three other ones they have there two fit one would not fit.

Hey that Reese part number is that a 45291,can not make out the last diget, looks like something hit that last number.....Is it a 1...

Be careful what you wish for. It is a simple fix to grind it. After all it's just steel on the outside edge that is a fraction of an inch too tight. If they replace the hitch they have to touch a lot more stuff. And I guarantee they will not torque all the fasteners to the correct torque. Good luck.

So after getting on/off the phone with Reese they say that fits a CHEVY/GM HD trucks. When you run that part number with ETrailer it states in the notes below that this will not fit 2015-Up RAM HD,and 2015-up Ford SD's.That pintle hook adapter was from DrawTite's Titan line of products design only for DrawTite receivers according to the Reese tech dept. They stated that they do not recommend installing anything Reese into anything Curt. Both have different specs and design engineering on receivers tunnel's,despite rating ability. After the tech read your post Viper he said you may have damaged the hardware for the receiver that goes into the frame assembly by using sledge hammers and tow truck winch's.So it looks like the CDJR dealership is ordering a receiver for nothing but like the Reese tech support stated he should have the receiver mounting looked at closely at the frame to make sure there was no damage done that area of the receiver mounting...ETrailer part number is RP45294....

I don't know where Reese got there information from. I originally bought it for a 2015 F 350 SD. Plugged right in day one. Used it on our 2014 GMC 3500 Denali pushed right in. Just got a 2017 Ford F 550 plugs right in as long as you use the collar. The 2017 ford is a class 6 hitch with a 3" opening. I tried two other class 5 hitches 2 1/2" in the RAM and both went in no problem. SO out came the grinder, had to take off maybe .020" on all 4 sides and now it slides in perfect . Did not want the dealer screwing with the truck to change the hitch out. I don't like the hitch to begin with, the Ford looks like it will pull a tank, The Ram will pull a Hugo. Other than that I love the truck. The last Dodge I bought was a while back a 1995 Dodge Yellow Viper.

Hey every picture tells a story, and I guess you have one.Just glad the dealership didn't go down that trail with you.And also waste a tech's time and the dealership a warranty claim on a perfectly good class 5 receiver, which might have been denied costing the dealership and the tech money..As far as Reese goes if you do not like that out come on a part number than check ETrailer.com,it was the one that had the fit note posted below the hitch asembly, but I guess you think they have it wrong too.But like i said every picture tells a story...Hugo huh thats a good one but my money was on you saying a Fiat...

The problem is it was NOT a perfectly good class 5 receiver. They tried it at the dealership on 3 new Rams 3500 they had in stock and it fit one would not fit the other two. The one it fit was nice and square smooth all the way thru, the other two and my truck when you put your finger in the top on the back had like a crush wrinkle to it. It was square in the front and the just a few thousands smaller in the back of the receiver. They had it up on the lift and measured it with a caliper gauge and the back was smaller than the front. Did not have my camera with me. I will replace it with a 21,000 hitch when I find it. Ford has it so it should be there for RAM also.

Q: What enables the Super Duty to tow up to 21,000 lbs on the hitch without the need for weight distributing hitch attachments?

Ford increased the physical size of the hitch frame and went to a 3-inch receiver. There are specific Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) weight carrying and weight distributing testing standards. Ford was able to satisfy the weight carrying standard at the 21,000 lbs limit. Ford also offers a 2.5-inch and 2-inch receiver reducers so that you can still use your existing hitches. The 21,000 lbs capability is only available on F-350 and above.

It is insane (IMO) that anyone would want to tow upwards of 18k on their Class V hitch. That is what gooseneck and 5th wheel style trailers are for.....

On a sidenote, I have towed upwards of 16k lbs on my Class V hitch.

Total trailer weight based on MSO's totaled 15,550 lbs. On top was an 18+2 14k equipment trailer, then a 20+5 single tandem gooseneck trailer, all stacked on a 20+5 22k pintle trailer. PLENTY of pin weight on the ol' Class V hitch!!!!

Glad you got it fixed. I would have ground down the drawbar myself. It is far better to have a tight fit on the drawbar/receiver than have one that rattles. This will also keep the hole on the receiver from getting "wallered out" from a sloppy drawbar.

Just got a 2017 Ford F 550 plugs right in as long as you use the collar. The 2017 ford is a class 6 hitch with a 3" opening.

The F-550 is a serious truck as is the 5500 ram. Since the trucks just get bigger and better, so must the trailers. I like the thought of a class 6 hitch, I might need one:D just in case I would buy one of these:

I have a dump trailer I haul stone and sand sometimes with it. About 20K loaded. Then the flatbed trailer I haul the Cat D3C the trailer empty is 7700 and the cat is 16,000 or haul my Case 580 super k that weighs in at 14K . The heaviest is our 65" grove manlift weighs in at 22,450 That puts me at 30K on the class 5 hitch. Did not try it Yet with the Ram , the ford pulls it no problem as long as DOT is no where in sight. LOL
Posted a photo of the Ford hitch way heavier than the Ram.

I went with The B-wise trailer All powdercoated except the axle's. Has a Spring loaded tarp standard, All aluminum wheels with a spare underneath. You can load a skidloader, Atv, Utv in it and it has tie downs in the trailer. The sides fold down for loading with a small front end loader.

I like that dump trailer with the hydraulic jack and tail gate/load ramp combo. I also like the side mount D-rings, mine are on the floor and catch anything that I haul/dump. Looks like it is made in your home state, nice!

It is made about 100 miles south of me right off of I-81. The dealer I got it from is 2 blocks away from the plant. Had a Hydraulic lift motor go in the first month. They over nighted me a new one. Took about a half hr to change. I really like it, Had 21,200 of sand it Just a bit overweight. Over double... It would not lift it to dump, Would only lift it about 2 ft. Had to shovel some out ( actually a lot out) to take the weight off the front. The only problem is the price 14,500.00

Ouch! That is expensive, I bought 2 for that but more plain Jane. The overweight might be the reason for pump failure. I have to use a long bar sometimes to start mine when I am over. Usually, if I get it off the floor about 2-3 inches then it is good to go, one time I used my loader and another time I needed my handyman jack, so yeah, I have that overload issue too:)

I had to file the inside of my Reese class 5 receiver hitch. It took a while but, I continued filing then the 2" went in. Mine has a class 4 (sleeve) or insert inside it.
