I'm hoping for insight from more experienced RAM owners than me.

The facts: 2017 2500 Turbo Diesel with 33K miles. Still under extended warranty.

Yesterday I went to move my truck to a different position in the driveway. The truck hadn't been driven for a few weeks. Shifting into drive (D) and stepped on the gas. The truck felt like it was trying to move but like the parking break was on. Shifted into park and then into drive again. Then the truck moved, but threw a P0731 code - Gear 1 incorrect ratio. (Slipping??)

Later that afternoon I started it again and backed out of the driveway and test drove a mile or so. There no longer was a performance problem as far as I could tell and the truck seemed to drive normally. The check engine light was still on.

This morning, I did another more detailed test drive. Truck moved normally in drive. Tried driving in 1st gear also. All seems fine. Went up a steep hill in 1st gear All seemed fine. Reverse seems fine too.

So, could yesterday have been an anomaly? Should I just clear the code and see if it happens again? Or, just let the dealer figure it out. Any thoughts from more experienced owners are welcome.

Thanks in advance.

Sounds like fluid had drained back and hadn't made it's way fully through lines and valve body before you requested it to function. When allowing a vehicle to sit unused for an extended period of time, I start and allow them to idle for a few minutes before asking it to move. My 1500 gasser won't move at idle if I allow it to sit for a week or so. If I drive for a few days in a row, when I shift gears, she wants to goooo!

I agree with Topzide. I've had numerous vehicles that would do the same thing if they sat too long. Seems to be more prevalent as the mileage increases.

Topzide, Ipennock,

Thanks for your thoughts. The code cleared itself and all seems normal right now. I'll let it idle a little before taking off the next time it has been sitting for a while.
