2020 Ram 2500 4wd 6.7 current axle ratio with 68rfe trans.

comrade - i went to the build and price ram site. selected cummins engine on a 2500 4 by 4 , and the 68rfe trans automatically selected itself. under that option, the " 3.73 " said " standard - cheers!

3.73 is indeed the only gear option for all SRW trucks.

JR 2.73 ratio might be true on 2020 but my 17 was built and the window sticker said 17 " tires and 3.73 gears but when the buyer added the snow package, the tire size went to 18" and the gear ratio went to 3.42 and I sure wish I had the 3.73 in mine for towing at 9K winter covered snowmobile trailer. I get along fine with that gear ratio, but our towing is all above 8,000ft most of the year and I do have the 68 trans and 4wd.

I think they Chrysler got smart going with the 3.73 gears . 3.42 is a great highway gear unloaded not towing with stock size tires. Change any one of those 3 and things Performance starts to degrade.

As others have said 3.42 was the default gearing in CTD equipped single rear wheel trucks from 2013 until last year when it was changed to 3.73.

I still don't understand why gear options aren't a thing with Ram when it comes to trucks that are more likely to be used for work (diesel option) but are a thing with gas engines. It's really odd.

It comes down to the low RPM torque of a Diesel. Most gas engine's torque peak is at 3400-ish plus RPM's, so they need the low gearing.

The point is you have options. You aren't stuck with a one size fits all gear ratio like we are with the diesel option.

24,500 combined with 3.42's! Somehow it made the round trip from the NW to Arizona twice. You would have to rip my cold dead hands off them to take them away along with the drivers side transmission dip stick.
