Fuel Mileage and Regens

The only axel ratio I saw listed on the build sheet was the 4:10

On page 104 in the Crew Cab 3500 it says 3.42 ratio for the diesel:

For $145 extra, you can get the 4.10 ratio.

3.42 makes sense with the Powerlines very low first and second gear.

When I buy my next truck, I will buy it with the 3.42 ratio with the Powerline. Especially if these newer trucks will have so much HP and torque being put to the ground.

Unless I was towing 90% of the time at heavy loads, for me, a 4.10 ratio would not be needed. But I know my usage scenarios. Different for everyone else.

On the 2500, in fine print, it says N/A w/ETM Diesel option. The guide is complicated for me.

Yeah, no clue. Why would it show it, but then say N/A. Unless N/A means something different.

I'm waiting for the the official online build system to show up on RAM's website, as well as literature.

I really don't like how backwards and difficult RAM is making this for their customers and dealers. How can they offer a build sheet, but no corresponding documentation?

I can't believe someone would plunk down lots of money on an "unknown" vehicle.

Could you imagine someone plunking down $90k on a truck, thinking they were going to get an 8 speed ZF Cummins, and wind up getting what we already got now? Man I'd be roaring mad.... (Mark Dodge is even saying: Right now, the code is what we've got. There have not been any other releases of training materials, pictures, explanations, etc. If you're ordering anything before physically seeing it - you're taking some educated risks. There are going to be some things that we just won't know until they show up, and that can be fun. But don't make assumptions - if you're curious about a specific feature that was in a specific package in years past, it may have moved!)

Maybe I'm old school, and want to test drive a lot of them before making up my mind. Maybe that makes me weird or something. I guess I'm getting old.

Agreed, we still don't know anything. I think some surprise's are in the works. Why would Cummins make such big changes on the 6.7 if they are working on a 7.2? I wonder if all the changes mentioned, is in fact, the 7.2?

Cummins did away with the L9 and X12, in favor of one engine, the new X10. Is something like that on the way for the 6.7, the 7.2?

I know some have said the 7.2 is on the way but not for Ram. How do they know this? Cummins and Ram have us in the dark, big time.

I doubt Cummins are in the process of coming up with something new for the Ram..
at some point ( I think nowadays is that point) how you they sell something that has more power than anyone can reasonably use or develop a drivetrain that will hold up to that. its not like they are going to advertise being able to pull a 50,000 lbs trailer..
I remember a time when a tractor trailer that had 400 HP was the top dog on the road.. but then again, what do I know..

Don’t forget lots of transmission gears along with axle gearing had a lot to do with that. Back when drivers were more than steering wheel holders. Also passing them in a station wagon like they were standing still on the hills belching black smoke were pretty much the norm.

I miss those days of sulfured diesel, black smoke, and that smell... oh, that smell... as I'd pass them in a Dodge Aries station wagon... :)

With the higher prices on these trucks, emissions systems, hydraulic roller lifters and now glow plugs if true makes me want to stay with the old school stuff. I like to do my own work as much as I can and with all the new gadgets and gizmos these days it's getting to where you need an expensive scan tool or pay up for the dealer if something goes sideways.

I bought into a $4,000 Autel scan tool 3 years ago, and I use a lot not only on my vehicles, but others. I got most of the adapters for EVs and of course the generic OBDII adapter with breakout cable.

If anyone on here was in my area that needed some diagnostics with it, I'd be more than happy to help get you info. Puts my subscription to use.

Is there not any 25’s hitting the dealers yet?

I saw on another forum a hauler with 2x new chassis cabs. Clearly identifiable with the newly updated front end. Not sure if they were mule trucks or production trucks for who knows what.

If you are looking to "test drive" a 2025, you are probably looking not till March/April depending on your locale.

I will be test driving one next summer, like June/July to really take a hard look at all the trim levels.

Keep in mind, depending on your locale, your dealer might be stuffed with lots of 2024 trucks. Mine are in my area. However, depending on how much got changed with the new trucks, some folks may opt for a "tried and true" truck with the older tech.

My plans are to get a 2026 the following year.
