21.9 Mpg @ 80mph

No my truck is the california 235/555 granted shes not a powerful as the HO's but I like her. She was an ad truck at 10. 000 off MSRP, so all in all shes everything I wanted and more. I traded my 1998. 5 1 ton DRW EXT cab in because we are moving up to Reno and I needed a 4x4.

4x4 410 rear end I'm planning on putting on some oversided tires on her and that will change the axle ratio to my favor.

There are so many factors involved when equating mileage. . i. e driving conditions, altitude, terrain, etc. It's ignorant to compare against each other without having your trucks run the same test in the same real world conditions.

My 325-600 HO was $10k under the sticker out the door. I still wish I could get the mileage as Bill but I wouldnt want to trade the HO for a SO. I new that there was something that still needed to be told. Thanks for the rest of the info. . I "almost" couldnt sleep! :-laf

Yes, but you're running a single rear wheel, ewo wheel drive six speed. That's worth 5 or 6 mpg right there!

It's feasible he got 21. 9 MPG on the truck. With my 305/555 when it had less than 1,000 miles on it we went on a 700 mile trip and I got hand calculated 21. 8 MPG round trip all highway running 75-80 MPH. I've reproduced this mileage since then again hand calculated so I know it's not a fluke... mind you it;s been all empty and no trailer. I'm getting 17+ avg city and 20+ avg hwy.



With that said... I would be interested to see what his actual mileage hand calc is... I don;t trust the overhead at all. It's told me I was getting 41 MPG at one point while cruising down the interstate.

I've posted 23 + on this site. Last week drove 550 miles of 70 to 75 mph and got 18+. 6000 miles and original filters. OH showed 18 for a very short time, and the rest was 19 to 23. Mountains and cool weather. I think if the egt is low (400-500) and the boost is low (-10) then the high readings come in. Good luck, Doc

If I lived close to you I would like to park my 2004. 5 by yours and see if some of that milage would jump over to my truck. I get 13. 5 average milage and the best I have ever been able to get at 60 mph on freeway is 15. I don't even look at the overhead it is always 1. 5 -2 mpg higher that when I calculate it. (however I love the truck even though I expected a little better fuel milage). The truck is stock except for a afe filter system.

I guess I got a good one. I'm running the BDPP on the performance setting and took a trip last week from Augusta, GA to Key Largo pulling my 3500 lb. Fleetwood Bayside popup camper. Averaged 17. 5 mpg pulling the camper on US 25, I-16, and I-95 (45-70 mph). Took a day trip from Key Largo to Key West and used 8. 2 gallons for the 203 mile round trip (24. 7 mpg). Terrain and speed make a BIG difference in mileage. The Key West run on US 1 was FLAT, speed limits between 35 and 55 mph, and there are very few traffic lights.



This 04. 5 (auto & 3. 73) gets 17. 1 in the city with about 9000 miles on the clock. My 98 12v 5 speed did about the same in town but never that good on the highway.



Oh yeah, I DO know how to calculate mileage correctly... ... ... ... .

Not quite, my 04 305/555 4x4 DRW averages between 18. 5 and 19. 5 hand calc. I have even gotten as high as 21. 5 on a couple of trips at 49mph back and forth through the National Parks (45mph speed limit).



However, I usually don't drive 80mph unless passing.



MPG tip: make sure you top off the tank, then when you refill only fill to the auto shut off point :-laf

It can happen, just got back from a quick 1500 mile trip. Avg. 17. 2 overall and over 20 on the interstates at +75 mph. ( hand calc. ) Only 4500 on the odo , 3500 DRW. Dang, I love this truck!

Sounds normal for a non- "600" . My HO went 601 miles to 2 mil. /DTE and clicked off at 30. 1 gal. on its last tank ALL CITY driving, and not babying it around. Gotta get on it in these big cities, cityslickers don't like to let you in, or get over .

Bill7975... Is your truck a 305-555 or 325-600? Have you done any mods at all? I guess anything is possible. i remember last year when I rand my first tank in my new 04 305-555. It was between Grants Pass Oregon and Chico Calif. I had my foot in it all the way and got over 20 mpg. I posted it and got flamed bad. My mileage was about the same for about the first 5k miles and then went slowly down after that until the trade in time. I figure it needed a new fuel and air filter. Maybe I should just trade my trucks off just before the 15k service is due! That was in fact one of the excuses I gave my wife when I made my new deal. I told her that I woulod have to lay out about $1,000 in service and for another $2,000 I could upgrade to zero miles, a year newer, and a 1 ton. :-laf She went for it! :-laf My only regret is the mileage and the start up smoke. Im just waiting for the next TSB on the smoke. Everyone at the dealer and at the local Cummins dealer in Medford say I have nothing to worry about. The Cummins guy says my mileage will come up in about 15 to 20k. . I guess we'll see, unless I get the new truck urge again next year! . Geeeezzz, What am I saying? I dont even have my plates from DMV yet :--) :-laf

I have been recording my mileage since day one. I also have been using "Stanadyne" since first tank. The computer used to be accurate but after about six months, it went super low on me. I too got 20+ MPG in the begining. But after one year, I noticed a marked reduction in mileage. I still average 18+ MPG combined. I tow a 22' Hi-Lo and gear weighing in at under 5,500 total lbs. As long as I stay at around 65 MPH i'll still get 18+. On a trip to Orlando I was hitting 70-75 MPH and got low 16's. I have experianced wind resistance to be a big factor. I love how this truck preforms for my needs. I plan on going "boondocking" camping, if I can convince the wife, and take a 300 lbs generater and about 200 galons of water plus a whole lot of "stuff" for the kids. We will see haw the mileage is affected with all that weight. But you got a love a truck that will do all that I ask it to do without complaining. If I could just get my wife to act the same... . (never mind).

This past sunday, I drove about 80 miles at 75-85MPH and averaged over 28MPG!!!



Oh, by the way that was from Truckee down to Sacramento... an overall drop in elevation of about 7200 feet!

I did a road trip over Thanksgiving to Buffalo and Niagra Falls averaged 16. 8@ 80mph, best was 19. 6@ 65mph in my 04' 305/555, just turned 20k on the odometer, run Power Service additive in my fuel, my 05' 325/610 has only 2k on it and averaging 13mpg, loaded with tools, have to weigh it to see what I'm totin around.....
