Truck is running like crap, roll into the throttle adn she misses and sputters and dumps white smoke. #@$%!Took the Edge off and nothing changed, no dead pedal though but cant get her over 45 on flat ground! Could this just be the lift pump? Had the intank and new vp44 installed a year and a half ago!

I think there are multiple kinds of failures of the VP44.

The 0216 is just one of them. Sometimes they just die on the spot totally. There are electronic malfunctions, hardware (advance piston) malfunctions, diaphram malfunctions, rotor malfunctions, way more than just 0216 code malfunctions.

Please, just be careful... . #@$%!

Sometimes you can not exchange a pump for core value ($$$) if it is too badly damaged or seized.

Well if in fact it is the pump it will more than likely be replaced with a HRVP44 and the Glacier lift pump kit! I ran about 1 1\2 tanks of dyed diesel through it in the last week... could that have caused it? :confused:It sure happened all of a sudden the the truck isn't ever drivable anymore!

If you ran questionable-quality fuel through it that coinsided with the bad running, then change the fuel filters, inspect them, drain filter sumps for water.

Maybe consider pumping out the questionable fuel and replacing with good fuel. This is easier and less expensive than changing a VP pump. And will eliminate this one variable to your problem.

Could have been some contaminants in the fuel and messed up your timing advance piston and housing. Drain your fuel filter housing and change your fuel filter, might even have had water in the fuel.

Well took a trailer over to my friends house to pick up the truck and get it out of his drive way... hopped in fired right up and drove off like a bat out of hell! As soon as the engine came up to operating temp it fell right on its face again. Runs perfect while cold and crappy when warm! Any ideas? Still VP44?

What you are saying about your experience is similar to what my vp44 was doing. Here in the Phoenix area, for the last two winters, it would start and run like new. Power was down a little, but ran good.

As soon as the ambient temps started getting up over about 70-75 degrees, then it started to have an occasional dead pedal and would not pull. Never had the white smoke though.

I put up with it like I said for 2 years, then just decided that enough is enough, and bought a new vp44 from Midwest Fuel Inj. I liked their no core charge up front plan.

The new pump runs great. Very happy now with it and the new Rv275 injectors.

could be the VP but i wouldn't necessarily blame it on the red fuel. red fuel is identicle to regular diesel with the exception of red dye simply to tell it apart from taxed fuel.

TCluff If the fed's or state ever test your tank you are up to your neck in trouble. A farmer got stoped had dyed diesel the tank cost was 10,000. 00 doller fine. In IN.
