Do they make adapters for our 8-lug axles? If so, how much are those? If not, would you have to machine custom ones?

That is a great price on the rims, if they'll go for that. Regular 8. 25x 22. 5's are around $250 each. $275 for SS wheels isn't bad at all.



Yes, you can get adapters. Having a mental block a the moment, with who sells them. Someone will say, I'm sure.
 
Rickson and a few other outfits sell the adapters, they run about $800 a set I think.

Michelin makes this tire in a 445/50/22. 5 or 445/55/22. 5, the 50 series is about 40" tall.

The Bridestone tire listed isn't shown on the US web site and only a 445/50/22. 5 is shown at 40. 1" for drive tire (26/32nds tread depth) or 39. 5" for trailer tire (14/32nds tread depth).

Just talked to my tire rep. about the single this morning when I dropped off some 275/85/24. 5 casings for credit.

Michelin has a big push on for these tires right now and are expecting more carriers to start using them as they order new equipment.

The price for polished wheels is about $400. 00 and tires are about $700. 00.

On my Pete I would save about 500#s, HHHHMMMM!!!!

On our Dodges a tire like this in a 17. 5 or 19. 5 would be entirely too cool.

I have seen the 19. 5's. they exist, i just can't find them.



My D500 has 20"x7" wheels stock the tires that the previous owner put on are junk (d rated). I could go to 22. 5 without much change in weight with th super singles.
 
Does anyone know what exactly "floaters" are? Floatation wheels to be more specific. I know what super-singles are, but what makes a floater different than any other 22. 5" wheel? Are they like a step between 6-8" wheels and the super singles?

I run the 445/65R/22. 5 front floats on my Peterbilt quad axle dump truck,and they're quite a bit bigger than the 425's. I think the term float is used for front tires,and the term super singles is used for the rear when they're used in place of duals. Now we can discuss the difference between pusher,and tag axles... . As a side note i saw a set of 445's on a FERD crew cab last year. It looked cool,but not very practical with the axles it had. :rolleyes:

By the numbers that tire should measure:



16. 3 inches wide

8. 16 inch tall sidewall

~38. 8 inches tall overall

22. 5 inch rim size



These just come from doing direct math on the tires, and actual size may vary a bit of course

Out freight company has been doing a test on the newest version of the Michelin "Super Single" which has a new sidewall,different rubber compound for ride & traction and longer tire life(they also use a inner liner for safety purposes). The guys who run them have computers that gives them road temperature,tire temperature and tire pressure from the time they leave till they get home. They have done nothing short of rave at how they handle in wet and slippery roads and how much better the ride is with them. On a heavy truck like our road units they have proven very reliable and durable so far. How they would ride and hold up on our trucks is almost unchartered waters I'd say. The weight savings they claim with by going to a "super single" setup is for a complete change over not per axle. Height/width issues and proper wheel offset would be our only problems... ... ... When guys started going to super singles for drivers and trailers, they complained about hydroplaining real bad, compared to duals. I would think this would even be worse on a light truck. Just thinking out loud though. I do see where the guys are raving about the wet traction now, on a heavy truck.



Dad has a couple used super singles off a wagon he bought. He put on some semi duals on steel rims he had setting around.

Does he wanna sell them?



The truck I'm gonna put them on is a '69 d500 4x2 crewcab. The truck has a monster straight frame.



I plan to swap out for 10 lug hydraulic braked axles off a late model 2 1/2 ton truck so I can have disc brakes and won't need wheel adapters.

Dunno for sure. The tires are very short on tread, the carcass is good, but they were no longer road worthy for a truck. This is why they came on the wagon. Never seem to wear out wagon tires, they tend to dry rot away.



I will ask him, and see if he is keeping them for anything special.
