I've been contemplating going with some 22. 5's when these tires wear out. The 35" Toyo M/T's have great traction, but it looks like they're going to be bald at about 30k, so I'm looking for a longer wearing solution... especially considering the Southbend DD coming soon will allow some real power to the ground.

There's plenty of posts on here concerning dually conversions, but I'm looking for some input from the SRW guys. I like the looks of the Alcoa Flotations, and want a tire size close to 37x12. 50. After some lengthy searching on the web, I found a size 315/60 R22. 5 commercial 16 ply tire. It looks like several big-name companies make this size (Michelin, Bridgestone, Hankook, Kumho, Continental, etc. ), but I'm having trouble finding someone who sells them... or even getting any detailed info on them. According to my calculations, a 315/60/22. 5 would be equivalent to a 37. 4" x 12. 4" tire... exactly what I'm looking for.

Has anybody done a 3rd Gen 22. 5 SRW conversion that could post pics and give some info? Anyone know where to source a 315/60 R22. 5?

Thanks, Eric

When I priced it it was between 4000-6000 + shipping... .

They tell me that the ties are hand selected by them as most of them are out of round and or badly unballanced.

They say up rated shocks are a must.

I would then be worried about stopping them! ALOT of weight!

REDs WHEELS also custom makes them too

I can't believe they said there 10 bolt adapters are only 759!

That's not bad considering the amount of material each adapter started out as, machining time, lug studs and nuts that size are not cheap. You could always have a set made but I doubt many machine shops will want the liability.

I bought my 10 lug adapters from them for 995. 00 so the price has come down a bit, but I will say the workmanship on the adapters is top notch

I just purchased a set for $710 on Ebay brand new from wheeladapters.com. They are like daytripper said Top Notch! Fred the owner is a great person to deal with and will answer any time you call him with questions. Chromewheel.com is a great research site for any info and ????'s whether it be floats or dually big rig conversions. I am sure you will probaly need at least a 6" lift as I did with my 37" Toyo MT on my 05' CTD 3500 SRW.

My 22. 5's should be on my 07' DRW by next Friday the 19th... :-laf It would be sooner but I am headed to Scottsdale AZ for the Barrett Jackson Auto Auction all next week :D

Floats look great on SRW and sets them apart from all the 22's running around on the streets. If you get a set on your rig... post some pictures!!!

Been out of town for a few days, but thanks for the replies. I've looked at ChromeWheel and some others, and they have some good info there. I guess the problem I'm having right now is finding a tire size that I like. Most of the "traditional" 22. 5 tires available are very tall and skinny (around 7. 5" - 9. 5" wide), while the new "super singles" are designed to replace a set of duals, and therefore are bigger than I'm interested in (42" - 46" tall and 14. 5" - 18" wide).

I'd rather not go the tall skinny route, but I don't want to put 40" + tires on either, as that would definately require major lift, gear changes, braking upgrades, poor all around handling for towing and offroad, etc. I'd like to shoot for a tire around 37" tall and 12" - 13" wide. Many people have reported good interstate gearing with 37's and the G56, and when I ran across references to the 315/60 R22. 5, it seemed too good to be true. Just can't seem to find a supplier right now, but I'm not done looking either...

If things work out, and I end up going that route, I'll be sure to post pics and info. Thanks guys! Eric

Just a thought but. . I would look real hard at the 37/13. 50R 20E rated at 3525 lbs. load. They have a 40K mileage warranty and would be much more easy on the chassis not to mention the pocket book.

Thanks Matt, those do look good! However, my primary motivation for going with 22. 5's isn't for the "big rim" look, but rather for the 200k + mile tire life expectancy. I'm currently running 35x12. 50 Toyos, and it looks like they may go about 32k - 35k before they're shot. With the addition of a new DD clutch soon, I'm afraid the next set won't even make it that long! I plan on keeping the truck for many years to come, so I'm trying to think long term and do the economical thing... that, and right now (before I'm married) may be the only time I can even think this way!!! :)

Toyo's mounted and balanced = about $1400/set

Over a 200,000 mile span, I would probably go through at least 7 sets of Toyo's, or about $10,000 worth. I would hope to get a set of 315/60 22. 5 tires, wheels, adapters, and centramatic (or similar) balancers for around half of that. We'll see...

I know what you mean there.

You probably already looked at the 285/70R19. 5 load H Mich XDE2+ tire that Rickson sells, that one might do 150K but its only 35. 5x11. 00. It probably wouldn't look that wide either on the 7. 5" wide wheels they sell but from what I recall on earlier searching their offsets make them stick out on the 3rd gens.

You could drop some 30" rims under it! :-laf I don't get this direction of automotive art!

Not sure those are available in our bolt pattern. (WHEW) I

It's really scary to think that there's some bonehead peabrain (that has to share the road with the rest of us) that thinks that's pretty cool... . Bigger is NOT always better.

Update...

Well, I've been checking around, and made contact through a major tire distribution center with Michelin corporate sales. Evidently, the Michelin tire size 315/60 R22. 5 is sold only to the City of Las Vegas/Las Vegas Transit System for use on their subway cars.

Anyone here in Vegas that is associated with the City, or that would have any info on this?

You would have to have Jake Heads installed on the motor to slow those damn things down!! Imagine the rotor size you could squeeze in them! LOL!! Some peoples children these days. Maybe they got dropped onto their heads too many times when they were little!
