That DARN Geno's Garage

One of the company's just rasied their prices so now its exactly $2,000 difference. They bothe have billet input shafts. So I'm going with the cheeper of the two. Even though it will take longer but oh well. Thaks for all of you help guys. :)

I just compared the price lists on both of their websites... They seem pretty close, so I think I'm missing something (options?). Where's the $2k difference?

JJ

Ever heard of anyone running a hybred of the two? I already have a ATS triple loc TC but the more that I read I am beginning to lean towards a DTT valve body and rebuild kit. Any good reason why they would not be compatable? I have not installed the TC yet as I am still saving for the other components.

Bill Kondolay @ DTT has cryo parts available, all critical parts are cryogenically processed to perform as do the machines at Indy, sled pullers etc. Call him and talk to him, he's a straight shooter. Ron

Call both places and get the final out the door price and you will see the difference, if not PM me

Price changes must be fairly recent...

I went thru all of this in 2003. I sure didn't come up with a $2000 price difference. I never got serious with some of the major transmission builders because I wasn't confident in who was going to be doing the actual installation (I was looking for "local" install). But all of the vendors did talk with me on the phone a couple of times, and were all very helpful and knowledgeable. The trannies were priced in the same ballpark, however. And I made sure that I was pricing out the same components (apples & apples) from each vendor.

I'll just say that I haven't priced out these trannies in a while since I had one installed last Feb. , but I'm suprised to hear that there's that much of a difference between comparable ATS and DTT trannies.

I really like my Goerends trans. Ask the other guys about their stators. Dave has a Custom and patented stator that starts tight... and gets tighter. At Lock up mine only drops 50rpm. If your racing, that means your converter is getting tighter all the way up. Converters usually get more and more loose as the RPM's rise. Call Dave and ask him about it www.GBTransmissions.com

Josh,

Maybe you need to call Dave before you make any more inaccurate statements like " converters get more and more loose as the RPM rise" Fact: as coupling (impeller + turbine speed )approaches 90% the stator becomes ineffective and freewheels on the oneway roller clutch. As RPM's rise the converter gets TIGHTER & TIGHTER !

Something you have to think about with your TC, and I have first-hand knowledge of it now, is having a "loose" TC so you can build your boost easier in high gear. When I am trying to keep my smoke down I wish the TC was a little looser so I could get my RPM up a little higher and spool the twins.

Whoever said Diesel Transmissions were a religion was right!

Seriously, call both companies and go with the people you are most comfortable with. For me that was Clint Cannon and his family at ATS. Their knowledge, commitment to service and just the spirit of the guys who work there was really something! I'd go with them again in a heartbeat.

Also, if you have an ATS TC, it would be best to go with an ATS Valve Body. Without it you probably won't be able to shift locked, and what if you have a problem? Which company is going to warranty the trans? If the other make of Valve Body screws something up in the trans, and I were Clint, I wouldn't warranty it.
