on my 99 cummins when i am excelraing it starts to jerk or shurge bad . my comp on or off it makes no difference . the fuel pres is about 12-15 psi and the most drop i will usual see is 5 psi wich is normal. i checked all of my connections . and i guess i could use some input from some of you boys out there on what you might think . oh also boost is in normal range as well

Thanks Josh

My truck does the same thing at 1600 to 2000 rpms. Maybe some one can help because i've been trying to figure it out for a year now. Clutch Slipping? Injector going bad? Ive checked everything i know of.

At least I am not the only one fighting this problem! I have changed my TPS, Map sensor, Cam position, Crank position, injection pump, injectors, turbo, put the FASS on, and have tried multiple Comp boxes. It only surges/misses when the Comp is on and I am 3/4 to WOT. Most pronounced while towing. Truck runs great otherwise, so I have just been staying out of the throttle and turning the Comp off to tow. I will let you know if I have any additional info.

If anyone has some ideas, lets here them.

JCulp, where do you have the Comp ground run to? Does it go to the Air Intake Horn like the directions say? If it does move it! Connect it to the battery negative terminal directly. Have you got any codes? P0253? I had a bad surge problem and it turned out to be my ground, for some reason the ground on the intake horn goes bad after time. Hopefully this is your problem and it'll be fixed now.

Mine has been doing this exact same thing for 4 or 5 months now. It only does it with the Comp on which to me indicates it is something to do with the Comp or wiring. Funny thing is it started exactly when I installed a new VP44 and DD3 injectors. Didn't touch the Comp or wiring - except of course for pump tap wire and ground. Have checked Comp wiring connections and they all appear to be sound. I have the Comp ground connected to one of the VP cover bolts so that should be a good ground, right? Should I run a ground wire between the battery minus and the pump cover just to be sure?

Thanks for any ideas you may have.

Surge

Mine does this as well. No comp but I do have an EZ. Loaded, unloaded. Always under heavy throttle. Pulling Snoqualmie Pass 2-3 months ago empty going about 73mph if I floored it I could still accelerate fine but I could feel a surging action going on.

Like I said though, only under a very heavy throttle accelerating usually going over a pass. I have no ideas...

Clay

Have any of you changed the IAT sensor? That is the intake air temp.

I had a light surge , IAT was it.

The computer will only set a code if it reads too high or too low. Won't set a code if if it is off a little.

I can get a little of this condition pulling up the Black Hills going to the ocean with the trailer. I wonder if anyone with traction bars found that it cured it. I wondering if it isn't rear springs wrapping up and releasing at a high rate from power pulses from the engine. I could play with Rancho RS9000 setting to see if it occurred more at lower settings. For people that have this, what is the condition of your rear shocks? Staggered shocks are design to prevent spring wrap up. SNOKING

yes i put the ground right to the bat from the get go beacause i read of guys having those problums. one other thing that i didnt tell you guys is that i have the mac-5 inj would that have anything to do with it

I thought about something like this as well because the sensation is like going over intermitent washboard bumps in the road under full power where the truck seems to skip/surge when the drive tires hit the bumps. I have kinda ruled something like this out since with the comp off I cannot make the symptom occur - even with the pedal all the way to the floor. But, even with the comp on 2x3 I can get the surging symptom at like maybe 2/3 throttle. My thought is this is producing less or equal HP to WOT with the comp off. I might try grounding the comp ground wire to the battery as well to see if that helps.

I think I am going to try to find a friend with a comp that I can swap in to see if it still does the same thing.
