I think it's a lot more work than most people realize .
QUOTE FROM THE GUY IN THE MAGAZINE
How much do you really need?
Rosen says most families could go off the grid with as little as a half an acre, "as long as it's the right half-acre. " Ideal locations would have some woodland, an area for agriculture, enough light for solar power and a good source of water, either a well or a stream. "The era of 40 acres and a mule has been replaced by the era of a half an acre and a laptop and a solar panel," he says.
We have 35 acres and sometimes WE DONT HAVE ENOUGH!!! I guess he's talking about a different lifestyle. To us the whole plan is not to owe anyone anything that is off grid. Hear people in town talking about electric bills, DONT HAVE ONE!!! propane bill we are still using our first fill of the tank from going on 4 years ago and will use even less now the wife got a wood burning kitchen stove. Heat!! is wood ,we have a tank-less water heater that ONLY BURNS PROPANE when we need it. Thinking of going to a wood burning water heater outside. But he's talking about A MULE we have 7 of them and 1 horse. I dont think that laptop is going to do the chores that need to be done JUST TO MAKE LIFE BETTER EACH DAY.
We raise our own chickens to eat and eggs 2 different kinds, Pigs, beef, milk cow and now 3 French Alpine Dairy Goats for cheese and some other goodies, TACO'S IF THE EAT SOMETHING THEY ARNT SUPPOSE TO, game we hunt. Wife has a geenhouse and a 2 acre garden this spring. I JUST DONT SEE HOW ON A 1/2 ACRE OF LAND.
