Superchips Problem ???

Edge Attitude Install

Hi Scott,I have done 2 swaps so far. The only 2 mods that i had to do was the output yoke. The outer diameter was larger. (order part)The other mod was to adjust the linkage and deal with a different patern or get the new style shifter to match the pattern. Let us know how you make out on the job.

Picked up my 271 yesterday and started working on the install today (had to quit early to pick the kid up at the airport) any way before I quit I had the old one (241DLD) out and laying in pieces on the floor, I straped the 271 to the transmission jack and lifted it into place, went in easy as *****, lined right up. I didn't like the clearance on the driver side it was about 1/4" from the frame so I pulled it back out and exstended the exsisting opening a couple inches forward with the plasma cutter, tomarrow I will weld in a stiffner for the frame and then istall the T-Case, I will also have to exstend the linkage bar and put a slight bend in it as well. I don't need any vacuum as I have the Posi-Loc to engage the intermiadate shaft so I plugged the whole for the vacuum switch and removed all the line. Since I didn't need the vacuum the guy who built the T-Case installed the Ford shifting plate so my pattern will be the same :D I am going to have to find an aftermarket device for the speedometer though, as there is no more speedo gear :(

CFast: sorry about that, yep still 272 ratio.

Well I got it all back to gether, and she is ready for some drive shaft mods now, I had them use a flange on the back side as well. I just need to fabricate the linkage bar and thats it.

since the gear ratio is the same what's the point in going 271? Strength? I just want a 4:1 ratio T-case without spending 2000 bucks on a Atlas II. You'd think since they make a low kit for the 231 they could come up with a kit for the 241.

yes, strength is my reasoning, I saw the main shafts at the shop and the 271 is way bigger, everything else is about the same as the 241DHD. Not only that, but the 271 was slightly cheaper. Give transfer case express a call he is super nice guy who might be able to help you out.

Scotty. . good to see your almost ready to be pulling/driving again. . I was up at Reno for the past week. .

" had them use a flange on the back side as well". .

what type of u-joint you going with ??. . not sure what you mean here. . spell it out for this dummy :)

Hey Gary, I wonderd were you have been, house hunting ?

The rear drive shaft will flange bolted to a flange on the rear of the T-Case, No more slip yoke at the T-Case (I have the two piece drive shaft with a slip yoke at the carrier bearing) this way if I have any rear drive shaft issues I simply unbolt the rear drive line and drive away in front wheel drive.

The front drive shaft is going to be upgraded to a 1410 series with a bigger tube the 1480 series, wich is what my rear is, was going to be to big.

Chris yup, the cardigan joint is being rebuilt and the lower universal (the one we replaced in Sonora) is going to be a 1410 so we are also upgrading the pumpkin yoke and slip joint yoke to a 1410 and building the shaft out of 3" dom, I believe the stocker is 2 1/2" not sure but its bigger.

A bigger shaft is better, thats what she said :-laf

Do you have the front flange already for the 1410? Greensburg can do them, he made me a complete front shaft with 1410's and no velocity joint.

Okay still can't the ABS light to go out I believe it is because the speed sensor or spedo gear isn't hooked up, not an option on the new 271, any body know were I get an aftermarket speed sensing device I have no speedometer.

Thanks,

BBD

what about the Tru-speed thingy from Superlift(I think)--it allows you to run bigger tires and different gears and you can calibrate it--not sure it will work, but I'd look there first--chris

The superlift tru-speed modifys the signal from the vss that you dont have anymore. Why not use a tone ring off of a wheel or the driveline with a magnetic pickup?
