Should I be hearing the turbo spinning down?

Just did a search on adding propane to our beloved 24v engines... didn't come up with much other than Bully Dog apparently has a kit.

Something disturbs me greatly: most propane systems inject into the intake, right? What about the 200 amp manifold pre-heaters we have on our trucks? Couldn't mixing these with propane cause some nasty 'pre-ignition'? #ad

Anyone running propane on a 24v Ram?

Admiral,

David_VT, is correct. There is at least one other proprane boost available besides BullyDog.

Check out this link. . http://www.atsturbo.com/Diesel Propane Systems.html

As for the heaters and the propane, I don't know. It's designed to work with our engines but I don't know how it works. Perhaps the propane is injected after the heaters. I don't know if the propane will ignite with the heated air if injected after the heater elements.

One of experienced bombers might have some insite on how this system works and can clarify this type of boost system for us.

I have been interested in this for months. Bully Dog quoted me a price of $600 for thier system, which I thought was reasonable. Don't know what the ATS system costs, but over on the Ford board, where a bunch of guys have propane, the ATS seems to be the system of choice. You might also want to search over there for posts by "Johnboy" or "Johnboy 2". He is a PSD owner (also a Cummins fan) who built his own propane system and says it is pretty straightforward. As far as the intake heater is concerned, wouldn't you just turn the propane off when you start the truck up? I know the Bully Dog has a in-cab switch for turning the fumigation on and off.

Admiral, my manifold heaters are removed. We don't need them out here. The main reason you will not have a problem with the heaters igniting the propane is that you have no propane in the system at idle. My system is triggered via a boost sensitive switch. My solenoid stays closed till I have a minumum of 4 psi of boost pressure. This can also be done electrically via a trigger wire if you have the Power Edge box. The Power Edge taps into the MAP to control fueling and it has a spare lead to drive another device such as a propane system. The propane system on my truck is also from Edge Products although I don't believe they have it ready to ship. They have been burning the midnight oil getting the Power Edge to market.

Information on another company offering Propane Injection. There is a special introductory price good until June 1st.
