Just had the opportunity yesturday to test drive a 2001 H. O. 6 spd dually 4x4 at a dealers. My truck is a 2001 (stock) auto dually 4x4.
My SOTP-ometer was in overload #ad
This truck put me back in the seat at every shift!
Well, I think I'm coming down with a serious case of BOMBitus #ad

I'm a Newbie, and this is my first diesel. Will my AT be able to accelerate as hard as the H. O. ??? What do I need to do? I have been an observer of this site for a couple of months now and have learned much, but now that I have this power-hungry disease, I'm going to need to do some bombing soon!!
Gauges, K&N in stock box, and 4" exhaust will be first mods!!
Sorry so long, (still grining from the ride)!
Any help is appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

Grobin, Gauges should be the first item. If your going to bomb I suggest bombing the transmission first to match and HP upgrades you have in mind. The stock TC is junk. Put a DTT TC and VB in and you will be amazed at the additonal power put to the ground that you lost in the stock equipment. Then slap in some injectors and a fueling box like an EZ and you'll be passing those stock 6speeds (and dura-things) with ease #ad

welcome and good luck

Your auto transmission can and will pull just as hard, you just need to send some money to DTT. Fix the transmission up first or it will die when you bomb. A bombed ETC will make more power than a bombed ETH.

Hey, It all depends on how much money the wifey #ad
will let you spend!!! I just got cut off until next month. I guess I have done quite a bit in 4 months #ad
See sig.

From talking to HVAC and others in his performance oriented group, it would appear that the stock 24v is a better candidate for extreem bombing. In stock form the H. O. or ETH does do pretty well, but more options are available for the ETC. As for autos, it will probably always be quicker off the line then the six speed, since you are not loosing boost every shift. HVAC is now running an auto in the red rocket.

grobin,

Welcome on board... I can't add much to TOMC and LSMITH's posts... Gauges and transmission FIRST. . Then Injectors and EZ box. . By then you will have read posts and gathered enough info to go further. Then the big problem...

WHERE DO YOU STOP BOMBING ?????? #ad

Thanks for the great info. Makes me glad I got the auto.
Couple more questions:
What is the difference between the DTT TC and the one that JRE sells with their stage II kit?? Personal preference, or is one better?
I was considering watching the muffler & reseonator fall off this weekend #ad
, if that happens I was going to straight pipe for now w/stock exhaust. (I'm seriously contemplating JRE Stage II kit)
Any further assistance is greatly appreciated.
I'm going to change my sig. now, but I have: 2001 3500 dually 4x4 auto, 4. 10 LS camper & tow groups.
I also two a 28' 5er on weekends.
TIA

Grobin, Although i am not as informed as many people on this post, i can post from personal experience. the first thing i did was a VA, great improvement. the my bullydog stage II injectors, another great increase it was at this point that the transmission started to slip in OD while towing 8K trailer on the second trip. that is when i talked to Bill at DTT. here is the reason i respectfully do not agree that the transmission is one of the first mods. When you talk to bill he sets up the vb for your individual application. in other words you have to decide how much power is enough(if that can be done!!!) before you buy from bill as he will ask for your hp output so he can setup the valve body for your exact #'s and he wants to know what you will be towing. therefor bomb away until the transmission objects or the wife complains too much(i have figured out how to hide the $'s from my wife and i can sell you this data for a reasobable fee HA HA just kidding about the fee although it is priceless if the wife has charge of the books. Thank god she doesnt have this website info!!!! or my a$$ would be gra$$ and she would be the lawnmower!!

Daniel, Thanks for the info. I've been looking into DTT, but I'm still unsure how I want to procede. I'm seriously considering JRE stage II kit, but don't know how the TC compares to the DTT TC.
Any further info or suggestions would be great.
TIA, George
