Belt drive system: self-tensioning, maintenance-free design for increased reliability, durability

This was shown in a Cummins ad about the ISB 24V engine. What is belt drive on our Cummins engines? I thought everything was gear drive, of course I have never completely torn one down.

yep

fan, water pump, alternator, air conditioner compressor and vacuum pump (i think) only the power steering pump is gear driven and it powers both the steering and brakes. VP44 is gear driven, and the so is the cam i think. of corse we all know about the electric fuel pumps:rolleyes:

The vacuum pump is gear driven. The power steering pump bolts onto the back of the vacuum pump for pre 03 engines. 03 and newer don't have a vacuum pump and the power steering pump is belt driven.

Ohhhh... OK. The ad sort of gave me the impression the section I was reading was discussing internal strong points. I didn't even consider that Cummins was mentioning something that almost every vehicle engine now has... a self adjusting serpentine accessory drive belt. Guess I couldn't see the forest cause the trees were in my way.

Maybe they should also mention its liquid cooled... hehe.
